  • I think it was forecast about 2-3 months that these deals wouldnt last forever.

TBH, it could simply be a short-term function of either your handset, network or even the tariff chosen.

FWIW, there are currently approximately 300 possible combinations of handset x tariff x retailer available which work out at zero cost over the minimum term of the contract (after cashback) - this is roughly the same level of choice as there has been for at least the past 6-9 months. So I don't think it's part of a general trend of increasing prices.

Within the above statistic there can be price fluctuations from month to month for each individual network as they adjust the level of sales commissions available to the retailers (which the retailers use to finance the cashback on offer). Network commissions rise and fall all the time.

Although less likely, the handset itself can also affect the price from month to month as short-term shortages of a particularly popular handset may well result in a short-term increase in the unit price offered to the retailers by the networks/distributors.

Sometimes even the handset manufacturer can have an effect on the price the consumer pays. For instance, if they want a particular handset to be a success, they can heavily subsidise it upon release to encourage the networks to promote the handset only to reduce the subsidy at a later date when the handset has been well adopted in the marketplace.
