in Water bills
Hi, we bought our house in 2006, it's a mid terrace, we had new damp proofing done at a cost of about £3000 then in 2009 i noticed that the internal wall which runs along our alley way was damp again,m they came and redid the work, now it's bad again and worse than ever. I am starting to think that it's not the damp proofing but a problem with the drain which runs down the alley way, it is a shared drain which mine and my neighbours water runs through. When it got blocked once the water company came and un blocked it for free, so do you think i should get them out to see if there's any underlying problem with this drain which is causing the damp?
The other walls we have had the damp proofing done on in the house are perfectly fine.

..first establish if the drain is blocked.
if its a blockage and the house is pre 1937 then I thing its the water company.
The law changed on 1 October I think the Water company now own the pipe, if it serves more than one property.
If its in there ownership then they will clear or/and repair it if broken.

I doubt the water company will investigate dampness in your wall simply because you have a hunch it might be the cause of your probem.
It is a different matter if you or the damp-proofing company provide some evidence that the drain is the cause.0 -
Sorry to say it but the chances of STW coming out to check your damp wall is next to none. You need to work out if it is down to them before they are going to look to dealing with it.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

Well the water company are coming out on Tuesday to check the drain running down the alley, if there's a blockage or crack which is seeping water as i suspect, then they will fix it. I think some of you may have misunderstood, i never wanted them to look at the internal wall's damp, i wanted them to check the actual drainage pipes to see if they were seeping water through a crack, if they are then this could be the cause of the damp. Thanks for the replies:)0
