Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sunday 11th December). This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
I seem to be in a slightly better sleeping routine at the moment, lets hope it lasts.
Yesterday's plans went all awry as DD & SIL needed to go to B&Q to buy plasterboard & flooring & they'd have had to make 3 or 4 trips if they'd had the DGC with them, so we had the kids for a couple of hours. It was lovely to see them & they were very good, but I didn't get as much done as I intended. I did get my rag wreath done (I'll post a pic on my blog later) & did add the whisky to the mincemeat. today I need to make the mincepies & the whisky mamalade.
Roast chicken today, not sure how much rubberising I'll manage as it was a ready cooked chicken for £1.99 & it's not very big, I have a leek in the fridge so will at least make chicken & leek soup.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

The tree is up, I've put the lights and strings of beads on, I'll do the rest later. Lots of candles dotted around and plenty of tacky singing toys :D :xmastree:
I've crossed five more things off my to-do list. Today we'll be putting the coat hooks (only had them for about four years, lol) and curtain rails up. Hopefully I'll have a couple of new shelves in the kitchen too.

  • Good morning everyone... hope it's ok for me to jump in and post here.
I'm really hoping for a nsd today - I have an afternoon with my dd as my oh and ds are off to watch football. We're going to try some batch cooking, which I haven't done for months - I hope that dd will enjoy getting involved and will be more keen to eat food that she's helped to make.
Other than that, the usual Sunday morning stuff - housework and getting things ready for school and nursery next week.
I also need to write ds Christmas cards for him to take to nursery.
And had better start writing some of my own - some need to be posted sooner rather than later.

    Morning All

Baking day today! DH is working so DD wants to make biscuits and cupcakes (will use them in the pack ups this week).

Will be making cottage pie for dinner today (i don't make sunday roasts in december so they appreciate their christmas dinner more :rotfl:)

Will be feeding the twins again this week as they ran out of money last monday! have given them money for diesel and luckily they put money on the gas and electric at the start of the month.

Very little cash about until DH gets paid on Thursday and then I will get the last bits I need in to finish and will just leave me the veg and fresh stuff to buy the thursday before christmas.

Another coffee then the oven's going on!

    Have a lovely Sunday x

PS still doing SW! but I am having Christmas weekend off!

    Welcome wannabe_in_credit :santa2:

Looks like they are finishing the roadworks today so DH will be able to take DD to work and pick her up.

DH is taking our spare bed down to DD's BF's, his parents won't buy him a new bed (They can afford it) his is falling to bits and the mattress has had it - I can't understand people sometimes.

I still have some cards to write and get posted, so I will get that done today.

HM steak and kidney pie with roasties and runner beans for dinner today.:xmassmile

  • Morning chums bit nippy this morning.Lots of things to do this week.Tomorrow I have my book club in the morning I finished 'Restless' by William Boyd which I enjoyed Not a bad read, and set in Oxford where I lived back in the 1960s.Changed a lot now though since then. I hardly recognised it when I visited this year, although I did get to visit Blackwells bookshop for a good wander around and bought some of the books I fancied there. When I lived in Oxford back in 1962 it was my favourite place for a browse ,but I never had any spare cash to buy anything in those days.Another wonderful place we visited on holiday this year was Hay -on-Wye.I could happily live there with their 28 book shops :):)
Today I must get the rest of my cards done and addressed for posting and wrap some more bits up.My spare room is filled with stuff I've bought and now I just have to remember who is getting what :)Busy week this week with Nativity plays to watch and two Christmas lunches to go to and Wednesday I am out with youngest DD shopping for the boys presents.Roll on Boxing Day when we can all relax again for another year.
Right time I got the coffee pot on the go and had some toast to stoke up the engine.Have a good day everyone no matter what you are doing
    <<<hugs to JackieG & family >>>
    Cheers chums

Now now young lady what have I said to you before?
You may not have had a death in the family this week but I still think your current situation deserves support. Yep you heard me you DESERVE these hugs, this is your gremlin again, trying to convince Us all that you're somehow not worthy. Well you are, if we can't offer love and support to someone when they're down when can we?
