Thanks for explaining.
It's just that post#4 seems to suggest that the money would be put to other uses.

No, you shouldn't. You are only enabling their lifestyle. They wouldn't beg if no-one gave them money. The money would be better spent on a charity such as Shelter, who will try to help people off the streets.geordie_taxi wrote: »so i shouldnt help out hungry beggars or the homeless. wot a good bloke you are i hope one day your not in their predicament.0 -

a charity such as Shelter cant cope with all the beggars/homeless that is in london. so you saying that i should walk past these unfortunate people and turn a blind eye. again wot a nice bloke you are to your few human beings.Fares Advisor & Oyster Specialist - Newdeal/ukRail Fares Workshop Accredited0 -
You don't have to ignore them, you can help them by giving money to Shelter or similar. Or you can encourage them to keep begging and sleeping on the streets by giving them money, your choice.geordie_taxi wrote: »so you saying that i should walk past these unfortunate people and turn a blind eye.
Try offering to buy them food instead of giving them money - they will usually refuse in my experience, as they want the money for drugs.0 -
I have to admit, Ive often given my parking ticket that has not expired and didnt really think about it in that light.
However, I also print off extra vouchers if Im going somewhere 2 for 1 meals or 25% discount on meals and usually find some pensioner couple to give them to.
I just probably think that some of these places overcharge and its nice for some of us to get a bit back.
Does it really matter that I print 2 x 25% vouchers for slug and lettuce and give one to a couple who look as if they might be grateful for a 25% discount.
Take a recent trip we had to some mountain in Folkstone, bus took us up, a load of tourists, Really cold at the top.
Soup and a roll £3.50 bad enough, but when they wanted to charge 40p extra for the butter to put on the roll it really took the biscuit.
I got them back by order 1 pot of tea for 1 which easily gave us 2 cups of tea, having to sneakily get another cup.
Swings and roundabouts.
I just detest being ripped off, it gives me the message that people think I'm stupid, I soon teach them that I am not.
Yet your whole analogy above suggests that you have not in fact grasped the whole OP.
money off and discount vouchers are not backed by bylaws and such like so really it makes no difference. Rail tickets are however and this sort of behaviour could lead to a criminal record for both parties involved."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
The vast majority of beggars are alcoholic drug addicts in my experience. Vagrants obviously have to eat and the one or two you've 'helped' have obviously had a severe case of the munchies! You'll find that giving them money at best, usually goes on a can of Special Brew!geordie_taxi wrote: »so i shouldnt help out hungry beggars or the homeless. wot a good bloke you are i hope one day your not in their predicament.0 -

your attitude to label beggars as alcoholic drug addict is so wrong and unjustified. its not their fault that they end up on the streets all sorts of things can go wrong for them and a lot of the time drugs has nothing to do with it.
