Hello money saving people......
Just 1 question.
I live in a hard water area, the water that comes out the tap is clean and drinkable IF COLD... Boil it up and it is pure disgusting ! the only thing you can do with the water hot is wash. When i boil any thing in the water you can taste it and smell it in your cooked food. for the past year i have to buy bottled water, just to make a cup of tea. as you can imagine that bottled water is not cheap, at the minute im paying 89p per litre at my local shop.. So my question is, is my water board (seven trent) liable to supply me with water that i can drink boiled?

More seriously you could try buying a water filter.0 -
Boiling should take out some of the hardness...I can't see how it is adding taste.
I too live in a Severn Trent hard water area ..Hard or soft tastes the same ..Just the kettle furs up0 -
I brought a filter (britter filter) but found I needed to filter the water 3 times and even then you could still tast it slightly taste it. There must be something wrong with my water but I don't know what ???? Iv tasted lime scale before in boiled water but this is much potent.0

Does it smell funny too? Our water is awful we go through 15/20 bottles of water a week because we can't bear the smell or taste of the water. It's got really bad lately I'm planning on ringing the water company tomorrow because I think that the level of chlorine in the water must be wrong.0

You might want to try a filter tap. We have a Blancofiltra kitchen tap http://www.blanco.co.uk/products/filteredwater with a filter that produces better tasting water.0

Even if they could would you want them to?
Severn Trent supply on average 1.8 billion litres of water a day. Now think how much it would cost to treat that much water and ask yourself if you think it is worth it.There's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.0 -

I followed your link, but couldn't find a price. How much are they please, including the filter?
Also, are the filters easy to fit? We haven't much space under the sink, and do they take excess chlorine out?
Thanks,

I live in the wessex area and noticed that our water is harder lately. Yesterday I had a long read of their water mangement on their website and was very interested to see how water is managed by switching to and from the central spine. I believe that our source is temporarily hard because of the supply problems. I would be having a good look at all the ins and outs on the ST site op. Water is being concentrated in various areas and sewage is becoming more concentrated so involving more chemical intervention, also sources change to and from chalky groundwater sources etc
We have a freshwater filter under the sink and have had one for a long time. It does NOT get rid of hardness but it does remove the chemicals and the water tastes lovely. Dd is in a very hard area and applied a coil around the rising main under the sink. Her water tastes better than it used to taste. British water has a good guide re water softening, I cannot copy and paste but google it0 -
Could it be your kettle ?0
