Washing machine - who gives longest warranty?

My washing machine broke down. It requires replacement of the main control board.

I rang Hotpoint and they said they'll charge me £192 to repair it and it will give me 1 yr warranty alongwith.

A new similar washing machine costs £300. But that'll come with 1-yr warranty.

Who gives longest warranty on washing machines?
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Generally the (non-basic model) Siemens ones. All come with 2 years but the better ones like the IQ300 upwards can have 5 years appliance and 10 years motor cover. Their repair organisation is very good, they don't blink at swapping a machine with new if it seems troublesome.

An IQ300 with 5 years cover (also available with 2 years at cheaper price as its on the crossover line) is about £480-490 but who knows what deals and discount codes may be around currently? as everyone is fighting over custom.

I know its a lot more than £300 but in everyway would be a superior machine to a Hotpoint and due to warranty would be guaranteed to work at LEAST 5 years but on my experience would be considerably more.

To me its false economy to keep buying £300 Hotpoints every 2 years or paying out for expensive repairs.

PS just seen a Currys code on the discount code board for 10% off washing machines would make it £449 free delivery. Sure there are loads of these around if your prepared to hunt.

Miele often run 10 year warranty promotions for some of their models. And they are really good too.

    Guarantees & Warranties

Miele appliances are designed, built and tested to last. However, we do recognise that occasionally individual components need to be replaced. As standard, we offer a free two year manufacturer’s guarantee with every Miele appliance, when you register your purchase. For additional peace of mind, we invite you to extend your warranty with a Miele Service Certificate.

    Peace of mind from Miele

For over 100 years Miele's legendary German quality has achieved exceptional laundry results. All Miele washing machines are tested for 20 years use and are sold with the following guarantees:
    Lifetime guarantee on door hinges.
Lifetime guarantee on white front panels against corrosion and yellowing.
Machines with waterproof system – guaranteed against flooding.
10 year guarantee against the breakdown of the washing machine drum, outer tub, axle, bearings and brushless motor.
  • As Sillygoose mentioned, if you can up your budget some Bosch and Siemens have extended parts and labour warranties wiuth two years as standard, and these can be had for under £500, possibly even under £400

Miele will be well out of that price range as will ISE

Don't be fooled by Hotpoints 5 year parts warranty. You have to use their inflated labour costs

To my mind a washing machine that lasts only 12 months is not fit for purpose. I have successfully had a washing machine replaced (bearings gone) and a a dishwasher repaired (door rubbing on wiring causing a problem) out of warranty by reference to the Sale of Goods Act which provides rights for up to 6 years (note this is not a guarantee against all faults for 6 years). The first response of the retailer is normally it is out of warranty go speak to the manufacturer but your contract is with the retailer so you do need to be persistent. You do also need to know your rights so do research online .

But if yo are claiming under Sale of Goods act then after 6 months it is up to the buyer to get a report that will show an inherent fault.

Bera in mind in Scotland it is only 5 years (if this is relevant)

all these things will take weeks if not months to sort out.
meanwhile your filthy togs/undies are covering the kitchen floor.

i can go up the road, spend 200 quid on a new machine, and have it installed. within an hour.
    Get some gorm.
