Irresponsible Drivers

Over the last while, I have read a number of threads on this board which have me worried about some of the drivers on our roads.
Some people seem to think it is acceptable to miss car MOT dates, forget to tax their car, or ensure their insurance covers their needs properly.
Personally, I think it is wrong to not prioritise making sure your car is roadworthy and properly taxed and insured. It doesn't take a great deal of time, and no amount of 'I didn't get reminded' and 'I haven't had time' is a decent excuse for not being legally covered on the road.
If you are organised enough to drive a car you should be organised enough to ensure you comply with the law. You shouldn't need chased up to renew your road tax and you shouldn't assume that you have grace periods with tax and MOTs.
If you do need to be reminded, whats wrong with using Martin's handy 'tart alert' to remind you of the relevant dates?
Just wondered what other people think?
I feel quite strongly about this as I commute 70 odd miles every day and I am very aware that my safety is as much in the hands of other drivers as it is in my own.
If someone doesn't bother to look after the paperwork to do with driving, do they bother with whether their car is roadworthy?

Outlook reminders & tasks are very useful here also - can set them years ahead if you want to. And yes PFB, I agree with you completely. I am one of the most disorganized people on this earth, but I don't let this stuff slip.pinkfluffybabe wrote:If you do need to be reminded, whats wrong with using Martin's handy 'tart alert' to remind you of the relevant dates?Favours are returned ... My OH did that in January and he is usually so organised!
I totally agree with the OP but sadly, one thing these forums has brought home to me is just how many people simply won't take responsibility for themselves or their own mistakes.0 -
I occasionally forget to move the tax disk from glove compartment to screen as well...
Not sure how easy is it to forget to buy tax, insurance, MOT though as you do get reminders a few weeks before they're due (maybe it's just the odd garage who do this for MOTs?).0 -

Even more worrying are the amount of illegal motorists on the road with no tax or insurance and no intention of ever getting any.
Their cars are often not even registered to them and probably far from roadworthy, you quite literally would not want to bump into one of these cretins on your travels!!

All the more need for traffic cops instead of speed scammeras. With the information readily available to police to tell them if a vehicle is mot'd/taxed/insured, it should be easier to catch them. And now the police have the powers to seize the vehicle there and then, no excuses, no "producer".And yes the lady in the avatar is me

there is no excuse why a car shouldnt be taxed/insured/mot tested, they are important things so you shouldnt really forget to do themNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20
