OP, you are being very hopeful - that said, I think others have been a little harsh, bordering on rude! Best suggestion is a cheap 3G phone, until you can afford a new phone or the contract ends. The only hope you have is a price rise, signal deterioration, etc. which may let you out of the contract - as others have suggested, as it stands, you may have grounds to get your fiver back, not out of the contract. Have you tried any home insurance or insurance included with your credit cards, etc. to see if they cover your iPhone? Good luck.
Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!

Have you tried to locate it with the app findmyiphone?
  • Wow, really? I used to work at a large mobile phone retailer, and saw really stupid things like this on a daily basis.

I didn't think those people were capable of using the Internet though!

You lose your phone, and expect them to cancel the contract? Oh.my.gosh.

A little harsh? Rude? The OP wants out of a 24 month contract after a month for no better reason than he/she lost the phone.

IMHO, there are a lot of rude, harsh people in here. Mostly I ignore them but in this case they would, most definitely, be right.
