Property damage by postman

If the postman broke the latch then it must have been defective in the first place (unfit for purpose), and IMO its pretty sad to attempt to blame him (or anyone else lawfully visiting) rather than just sorting it out.0

I'll tell you what, the company that installed the gates are coming on Monday, I will watch and listen, then introduce the "the latch must have been defective" line and await the outcome. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Royal Mail doesn't respond to complaints. They just tell you that they will look into it and never call you back. That's my experience anyway.0

Were gates Be-Spoke? Even a hefty boot or wallop should not have catch parting from gate assembly, I wouldn't wait to intro the "latch" tell the makers/installer latch was not fit for purpose!
I'd also have them check the other gates too.

As they say in the Royal Navy "It came away in my hand Chief". It must have been a pretty rubbish fitting to break so easily.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
