Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: For legal reasons I have to discourage swapping, buying and selling on the forum (please see this rule). While it can be a very useful way of saving money it relies on a certain amount of trust between members and as such can cause problems (and has in the past). If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.0

If its for £49 .......... thats the most i would pay for a GPS without 7 digit postcode search.0 -
Think this was a software update from Sony in June http://support.sony-europe.com/EVE/navigation/downloads/update.asp?l=en&f=U50
Also some other stuff here http://www.navu.sony-europe.com/navu/consumer/index.do0 -
Hi
My NV-U50 is at version 1.06 (09.1.2006)
Firmware version 8.31
It will do 7 digit postcode search as well as cross st location, Tend to agree with you on the maps issue though still crap.No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
Therefore keep the £90 and put it toward something better. Buying right, even if it is spending more, is money saving too.nightrider_1uk wrote:Tend to agree with you on the maps issue though still crap.0 -
To all the critics above:
Please find me a SatNav with 100% current map data for £90.
...You won't, not even for £200/£300/£400/£500/£1000, as the map data used by every manufacturer comes from only 2 suppliers and is always 6-12 months out of date to start with. Most of them use NAVTEQ, so all manufacturer's who use their mapping will have the same errors.
eg TomTom 3 was released AFTER the M6 Toll opened. Was the M6 Toll on TomTom3 ??? Errrr No.
eg Glasgow's revised (reversed!!) 1-way system was in place at least 6 months before TomTom 5 was released. Was the revised 1-way system on TomTom 5 ??? Errr No.
Also please find me a SatNav that gives you FREE map updates.
...You won't - all manufacturers charge you around £100 for updated maps.

Just ordered one of these on line with a 10 pound off voucher. I used my SONY credit card so should get extra brownie points. I got my significant other (girlfriend not wife) a cheap Garmin in Comet and we call it the Lemming! These things are GREAT but use it with Common Sense on overdrive. They can get you out of a pickle but can distract and lead you to the dark side. As scouts say "Be prepared!" Thanks to all in anticipation as this box is still on sale elsewhere for nearly 300 quid. If you want to spend more.. fine,, if you want more accuracy join the Marines and get one free. Im off to Paris tomorrow thanks to the Ryanair debacle so wish me luck xx0

Have to agree. Not yet seen the A1(M) new bit near Pontefract accurately represented and some roads near Newport (S Wales) that have been open going on for a year are not yet on there either. I guess the key to that is to wait for them to be added. At least tomtom etc release maps every-so-often, I get the impression sony aren't rushing to do it.withabix wrote:To all the critics above:

But either way I would rather have a 10 month old map than a 20 month old map.0 -

TBH, the difference with this Sony from JLewis is the price they are asking is so low compared to anywhere else that I'm sure you could try this for a whole month, keep the box etc and if you decide it's not for you, shove it on ebay and get at least your original outlay back. A 'free' trial in other words...0
