British Gas bill seems ridiculous, is it?

The radiator's positioned there because it's the coldest spot in the room. Rads were always positione below windows in the era before double glazing. No free lunch, and no free laptop

@Kazipoo what was your usage over the 157 days in Imperial units?
It says 205 units, but it doesn't say if that is imperial or metric and I don't know how to tell the difference.... sorry.Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs

FYI, my heating is on constant and the thermostat sits at 15 - 18 degrees through the day (when there is someone in) and 14 degrees on a night, I just let it click on and off when needed. We have blinds and curtains on all the windows, curtains on the doors and blankets on the sofa in case we feel like snuggling up. We all have blankets or throws for our beds and the kids have extra quilts for when it gets really cold and because the hubby is a wuss, he has a hot water bottle in the bed for his feet.Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs

That will be 205 metric units. Roughly 72 imperial.
Not really worth comparing this with the OP's usage though as you are talking about a largely summer bill.0 -
I write my readings down regularly.........
September 4th 0081
December 5th 0112

My usage in a 3 bed semi with 6 people is far less than OP's in a one bed studio flat, the same time frame has been covered, my bill was only issued yesterday, only difference is mine is from June to beginning December, OPs is from September to beginning December.
IMO it is worth comparing, even if you consider my usage would have been lower in summer, we still covered the same last three months.Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs

I am amazed how low that is. I had the heating on 4 hours today (1 radiator) and two baths were run. Also heated up some water for a 2 boiled eggs (glamorous)..I used a total 2.5 Imperial units today..(i am watching that meter like a hawk now). This does not seem right. Anyone think my Saunier Duval boiler is ripping me off? I mean kazipoo's usage seems so so much less than mine..in such a bigger place over a long time frame, something doesn't fit here..0 -
You still don't seem to realise - 4 hours of heating and 2 baths - this is high usage!
It doesn't matter that it's only 1 radiator, if you live in a poorly insulated home then that one radiator is having all it's heat soaked up quickly and the boiler is having to do a lot of work to keep up. A modern well insulated home needs the heating one for about half an hour and then you're all set for the rest of the night.
2 baths? Most people see a bath as a once or twice a week luxury these days. If you are concerned about your bill then you need to get in the shower.0 -
The room thermostat is set to 30, the highest possible notch. Why?

I have just looked at my readings for last year and from December 5th 2010 until December 5th 2011 I have used 238 imperial units.
Bear in mind that from 28th November on it was freezing cold for a long time and I was at home for 3 weeks because of Xmas and being snowed in (work in the Cotswold hills and had NO chance of getting up/down hills) so the heating was on quite a lot.
The temps got down to -19C and I kept the heating on 24/7, turning it down to 11C when I was out and overnight, because if I didn't the indoor temp would fall to 8 or lower :eek:Nicotine Free since 01.08.2010 :j:j:j
