HTC Warranty Claim

It sounds like this is the motherboard problem that all desires with 2.2 and later seem to have. My 3 year old hero is still working perfectly on 2.1 but my desire which was on 2.2 packed in after only 6 months. Kept turning off and got to the point where I had to keep removing the battery to get it to turn off, wait half an hour or so before I could get it to work again. I would have sent it in under warranty only one of the times I was taking the battery out I was in a car park, dropped it and smashed the screen (still works fine but for the motherboard problem), so I've gone back to my hero which is certainly living up to its name, just hope it carries on for another year or so until my upgrade is due.

Anyway back to the point. Have a google for "htc desire motherboard" and you'll see lots of threads about it and about how people have been left without phones for months and months where htc have kept hold of them or them coming back time and time again with the fault still present. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way of putting the phones back to 2.1.

There is...you can specifically ask for it from HTC.

I did with the .147 software build of 2.2 which caused network and wifi drop failure.
