Internet Speed Increase

Hello..
I took Sky internet when I moved into this house. It was very slow and when i called SKY support they said the maximum speed my line can have is 2.5 MBPS. I checked the available speed in O2 website, they said that it would be 15 MBPS in our address, so i took the connection with O2. Now i get only 2.3 MBPS. When i called O2 they say the same.
Any idea how i can change my line, and whom should i contact in that case. Do i have to call BT to upgrade the line or i should contact any local service men to get the line upgraded?
Thanks

The speed quoted is always 'up to'. You may not necessarily be able to achieve that speed.
Something to note is that if you are on an ADSL 2/2+ service, it can take up to 10 days for your speed to stabilise.
Do not disconnect your router during this period. It should be left on and connected to the main BT socket. Avoid using an extension.
Another thing you should note is that every telephone socket in the house should have a micro-filter connected to it.If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!

The main criteria affecting your speed is the distance from your telephone exchange. The following table gives an idea of what your should get.
Attenuation.............Approximate Line Length............Potential Connection Speed
32db.......2.3km.....16000kbps
35db.......2.5km.....14500kbps
40db......2.9km.......11800kbps
45db.......3.2km.........8500kbps
50db........3.6km........6500kbps
55db........4.0km.........4500kbps
60db........4.3km.........3200kbps
65db........4.7km.........2000kbps
Post your router line statistics and we may be able to help.

Your line must be ADSL2+ enabled now since you're seeing the speeds shown on the checker. Note that these speeds are only an estimate.
You will need to ask your provider to uncap the line - it sounds as though you are either on ADSL Max still and haven't been upgraded or you have been upgraded but your speeds capped. You need to ask for the elevated service.0 -
No. You first need to post your router stats so we can offer fact-based advice rather than conjecture.
