Hypnotherapy for slimming

  • I had the hypno gastic band "fitted" 3 months ago, I had 2 sessions before hand the first of which was a general chat about why I had food issues, the 2nd was to banish the issues (guilt, comfort eating, mother forcing her issues onto me as a kid etc) the 3rd was the "operation" I was also given recordings to listen to at home. I have also had one follow up session which was to try and get my backside into gear reagarding excersie and have two more to go (my thearapist has also been pretty good with weekly insperational emails and keeping a check on my food diary and weight loss.

Am I eating a lot less - no
Am I fullier quicker - no
Am I aware of what I am eating - yes very much so
Am I excersing more - yes
Do I still comfort eat - no
Am I more determined that I have ever been to lose weight - Hell yeah! £400 I shelled out may have something to do with it.

I think, with me it was more the way I ate rather than what I ate, I had on the whole, a fairly normal healthy diet but had (have) major isses with food, especially comfort eating, which I dont seem to do anymore.

My therapist also helped me with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which I think has been the key for me, I tend not to reach for a family size bag of minsterals or a whole tub of ice cream every time I have a bad day, feel down, bored, fustrated etc..

I have lost 2.4 stone so far which if I am honest isn't as much as I would like (I keep reading stories of people who lose 5 stone in the same amount of time!!).

So does it work................... the gastric band bit I am not sure about, but for now it really does seem to have sorted my head out about food and my relationship with it.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

    Good luck
    YDSM

PS I tried the Paul McKenna cd at home was rubbish.
I wish I would take my own advice!

Weight loss is a case of eating the right food, at the right time. As you get older, exercise makes this easier as it keeps your metabolic rate up

Oh, for goodness sake. If it was actally that simple in real life this country wouldn't have an obesity problem! That's like me saying flying a plane is easy all you have to do is push this button, pull that lever....

Someone is trying to help themselves and looking for a bit of encouragement. Is that really too much to ask?

i fail to understand, how is this not easy?

breakfast - dont eat fry up, eat wholegrain cereal

Snack - dont eat chocolate, eat fruit, museli/cereal type bar

Lunch / Dinner - dont eat processed junk, eat sensible meals

there are many, many people that manage it, admittedly it takes a little effort, but i cant see why if people are willing to go to hypno lessons for an hour a time, or weight watchers for an hour a time, they cant spend that time either exercising, or researching in a correct lifestyle

all it is, is a choice

Bio-chemically speaking, the hormone insulin is responsible for the storage of fat in the human body and both wholegrain cereal and fruit will stimulate your body to produce FAR, FAR more insulin than a fry up (minus bread/potatoes) would do, hence these might not be the best choices for a weight loss/weight maintenance diet.

The not eating processed junk I agree with wholeheartedly.. but what is sensible to me would, by the sounds of it, differ greatly to what is sensible to you.

I actually don't think it is that easy to know what to do for the best! But it is easy to see why all the conflicting advice confuses people.

I had hypnotherapy once - it didn't do anything for me to be honest, but obviously it works for some, so fingers crossed it will for you OP! Good luck!

so you would recommend a full english to someone looking to lose weight over a bowl of Porridge or Bran flakes?

anyway, aside from the diet, anyone who wants hypnotherapy or similar is after an easy answer to their problem, thats not how its solved. Its all about lifestyle, and no one can change that for you

hmmmm, where to start...as already said, if it was that easy, there wouldn't be so many people with weight issues would there?

i can't speak for anyone else obviously, but i've always known what i should do for a healthier lifestyle, but i didn't do it! it's only recently that i've been able to tackle the emotional issues that are the underlying cause of my over-eating. being aware of how you're behaving is the key. tryng to understand the reasons why is a little harder & trying to change the habits of a lifetime is even harder.

if you've never done any of the following, i don't think you could even begin to understand why weight issues are so complex -

carried on eating even though you're full,
started a packet/box/bag of something & not been able to stop eating until the whole contents are gone (sometimes, without even realising),
reach for food as soon as something upsets/worries you,
eaten in secret, making sure any evidence is well hidden,
lied about what you have/haven't eaten

i could go on, but i'm just depressing myself, so i won't! :D

'it's a choice' ? but if you've lived your life with very few opportunities to make choices, food can become something that you do have control over & things can end up getting very skewed.

calories in/calories burnt really isn't the whole story, trust me...

I'm not trying to recommend anything to anyone Carl! And obviously a fry up eaten as part of the average UK carb heavy diet would be fairly disastrous to someone trying to lose weight!! I'm just talking about the science of digestion and it's potential to, by educating exactly what happens when you eat a certain type of food, help break food habits that are responsible for weight gain. The information is out there in any bio-chemistry text book you care to pick up (and all over the internet of course). It is basic digestion as learnt in school in Biology.
  • 1stly to all who replied, thanks, good and bad posts! good ones I will obviously read, reread and savour your support. Bad ones I will too, as actually they still help me!

Carl31, yes yes yes that is how it should be, but up anddown the land there are millions each week handing over their money in search of the body beautiful, I have been there, I have done it and hated it. hated standing in a queue whilst people stripped off to the last layer in some freezing church hall for a weigh in, taking a deep breath and hoping against hope the lbs will be off this week. Then the ordeal of what can we eat this week starts again.

Thats the merry go round I want off! I hope she might retrain my brain, i hate weighing all the ingredients out and cooking a seperate meal for OH or visitors. As I do still cook, so I still sneak a roasty, or 2, yes I'm a pig!

So I want to eat a sensible meal, a snack and a pudding without guilt. yes i do secret eat, a buy a treat for on the way home from shopping, or I buy chocolate I hide till I'm on my own. I do all those things that have made me lardy.
I have joined a gym, as I eat when bored too or stuck in front of the tv. Its all bad!

So I thought Ineed a new angle, not 1 aimed at food, 1 hopefully that will teach me to spot I'm full and stop.

Thanks for your time and I will report back.
  • my mum had hypnotherpy for weight loss, she nees to loose about 10 stone. she went to about 6 sessions - the first month she lost a stone......then unfortunately my nan had a stroke and is very disabled now so my mum isnt really concentrating on her self and does not have time for exercise.

i dont think she has lost anymore weight but i feel it would have continued if she didnt have the stress and burden from my nans stroke.

i think its a great idea, better than any fad diet idea. all the best
