Does anyone know of any ISP provider's that will do broadband only without having to sign up for line rental as well.
Looking to switch from o2, as they are getting expensive.
Unfortunately live in a rural village where exchange is not unbundled yet, first one will will talktalk on the 12th Dec 2012.

No ISP who provides ADSL via landline does this.
If you have Virgin in your village then they may do it via cable. otherwise your only other choice is 3G broadband.
At leat you have a date for unbundling, my village exchange has no dates whatsoeverThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
You could consider satellite broadband but it can be a little pricey:

In the UK we don't do 'naked DSL' as its called in other countries - ie a broadband service but no voice phone whatsoever, because the landline rental costs is used in part as a cross subsidy to BT to improve the broadband network.
If you truly separated voice and data then broadband prices would have to go up considerably. Currently the real cost of broadband is hidden in the land line charges.
There are 80 odd million land line numbers but there are only some 25 million properties in the UK and assuming 80% of those have a broadband service - that means 80 million landline numbers are subsidising the cost of improving the service to some 20 million broadband receiving properties.
.......and as a guess I suspect the OP now realises that if you lost the subsidy from the 80 million, then those 20 million receiving broadband would have to cough up quite a bit more - a lot more actually.0 -

That as maybe.
Maybe should explain better, already with BT and only pay about £14 for 3 months line rental, very rarely use phone line to call (have mobile for that).
So was looking for ISP that just provides Broadband without having to take up there line rental.
Anyway's did find that Tesco offer a Broadband only service for £18, even have a £4 discount for 12 months for clubcard holders, so works out at £14 per months for first 12 months of an 18 month contract. From the looks of some of the pics of the router, it looks a lot like the o2 routers.
So £13 saving. from £27.50 to £14, not a huge saving but it all helpsMansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -

so basically what you are after is a BROADBAND ONLY package

Almost every ISP except BT offers a broadband only package.
If you want ADSL broadband, then you have to pay someone line rental.
If your exchange is not unbundled, then you are on the very expensive and dire O2 Access package-why?
If budget is the priority, then the obvious move is to wait for the TT Essentials service. In the meantime take BT Line Rental Saver for a year and save £55.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Had a better a job at the time of taking it out, was also cheaper then.
Allready on BT Basics, which is 14.40 per quarter, with 4.50 call allowance (which hardly gets used), so it costs me about £4.80 per month. Even TT essentials seems to work out about £18 per month with line rental.
Used the broadbandgenie, and all the packages there are expensive. Joys of living in the sticks i guessMansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
Line rental does not vary according to exchange. if you are on BT Basics then your line rental is already heavily subsidised. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I know, but it does vary from provider to provider only a small amount.
Hence the reason me asking about Broadband only without line rentalMansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
We're in a rural area with a phone line that's almost useless for broadband. We ditched that over four years ago and have used a 3G service ever since, which is between four and seven times faster than the ADSL was. (Average is 6Mbps down 1Mbps up)
No line rental to pay. If you don't use that much data, you could (not to say this is likely, but possible) find your broadband speeded up and make cost savings by ditching the phone line and using 3G instead. It even works OK for VOIP.
On the other hand if you use a lot of data, you may find 3G prohibitively expensive, and finally, depending on which section of the grid goes out in a power cut, either the house or the cell can go offline so no access and no telephone; physical landlines have battery backup.
One other option for broadband without a phone line is satellite, not as expensive as it once was, but meagre download allowances and still slow speeds. A last resort if no 3G.
A final good option can be a local Wi-Fi provider, but they are few and far between (I know of one in the Chelsmford area, one which serves some of Kent and Surrey, and so on - all very localised)0
