I think your missing the point wealdroam.........

People are saying they believe they have been duped, as thats what dodgy people do around Xmas time......
So the tell-tale signs are there to say its gone to scam stage.....
Those with brains pick up on this, those with non think items are just late.... :A
Hope those who are at loss get there monies back ASAP..
  • Hi All, Just putting my 2 pence worth in. Im in the same boat purchased a laptop due to arrive Wednesday - Became concerned yesterday when found both websites down when double checking deliver esitmated date - Hunted arround again on Geek depot for any posts and came accross this one.

I contacted Paypal last night as was my payment method - Asked if they are aware of any other people reporting Geek Depot for problems and was told they are not - I asked their advice as item not due untill wednesdaay explained I had attempted to contact the seller to confirm all ok and just going to answerphone, websites down etc- They advised await delivery date, it doesnt promising but give them the benefit of the doubt, then raise a case. They advised me it was covered with buyer protection and would be resolved.

Not Ideal but least it looks like the money will come back if I dont get the item.

Hope everyone gets their problem resolved - Would be nice If someone that has actually received an item to drop a post but suppose that is unlikely as wouldnt have found this blog if wern't experiencing doubts or problems.

    Best Wishes
    Alan
  • Hi

I have a very similar problem down to the delivery date on 8th not met. I paid via paypal so have opened up a dispute and spoken to them. They said that they already know about advectus acting fraudently as a delivery company.

They have assured me that because I paid recently via paypal that I will be refunded within 11 days.
  • I've also got a laptop order outstanding with Geekdepot, interestingly enough someone answers their main switchboard number but can't reach anyone from the company so instead will take a message for them.

I've opened a dispute with Paypal which I'll turn into a claim if I don't hear from them within 24 hours.

If anyone else hears anything solid in the meantime please post...

    Thanks

    Andy
  • Hi,

I think I've dodged a bullet with these guys. I've been wanting to buy myself a new laptop for a while (Asus UX31) but the exact model I want is not available in the UK with anyone I can find (256GB SSD + UK Keyboard). I found GeekDepot and they seemed to have the right model, but sadly (or fortunately) the product info was lacking and didn't confirm the UK keyboard layout and SSD size. So I called several times and was put through from the switchboard but it always rang out, tried their contact form and email and no-one ever got back to me. Didn't want to just order without verifying these details so I waited a while and checked again today and the website was gone... searched on Google Shopping (how I found them in the first place) and they didn't show up. I figured that was all a bit suspicious so I did a quick search and found this thread. Glad my excitement didn't get the better of me (I thought about just ordering and then sending it back if those details were not right).

Anyway, while searching on Google Shopping, I found a new supplier: pixelhunt.co.uk.... they had the exact same product info and the whole website is clearly identical. Checked whois and while it's a different company who registered geekdepot, it is only a couple weeks old and registered via the same registrant. This time the delivery agent is Aurum Parcel (aurumparcel.co.uk) which was registered on Saturday 10th Dec 2011 by the same people who registered pixelhunt... clearly the same MO, different names.

How should you go about reporting this? I'd fill in the forms here but a I am not actually a victim, they don't seem appropriate: https:// reportfraud.actionfraud.org.uk/fraudreport/ Perhaps the OP who originally contacted people about this scam can update them with this additional info?

I've dropped 1&1 an email to let them know but I suspect they won't take action without due process (which IMO is fair enough!)

    Cheers

    Col

no one takes action against a company before it rips people off...... Rule of thumb is, several people have to lose out before TS can do anything, at which point scam has moved on.....
Bit backwards but thats how it is...... Guilty until proven innocent, or if your dodgy trader, always innocent until u slip up!
  • Hey Tex ranger,

Just out of cuerosity I put in the tracking number I received from Geek Depot On the delivery company site you found and wow and behold up popped my details.

Thought be of interest proves what you thought
  • Oh dear, just realised I have been scammed. I also went to check my tracking number with Advectus and look up the number for Geek Depot and both sites have disappeared! Looking at all the other posts I think it is fair to say that they appear to be fraudsters. I have paid £449 though Paypal so hopefully will be covered. Can't believe it, this is the second time in a week, bought my other son an iphone through a local ad and that was a scam as well. I'm usually so careful, these internet fraudsters are so convincing, is there any chance they will get caught? I contacted the police about the phone and was told there was no way they could trace them as all the contact details were false!! I'm sorry that you have all also had a bad experience. Of course, it would be lovely if this was all a big mistake and the company prove me wrong and actually send the laptop , any chance of that??

    Hi all,

Have to add my predictions to this thread that I believe I may have suffered similar fraudulent activity.

I ordered a new Toshiba laptop from pixelhunt on Saturday and was very surprised to learn that they had posted it today even after saying it could take 8-10 days to deliver it. The website and layout did strike me as very simple and the deal was almost to good to be true, but not by quite enough to raise alarm bells albeit it did trigger faint ones. I checked out one named individual who was associated to pixelhunt. The address was on the website and was found to be in South London, very likely a stolen identity.

Pixelhunt's website is still up. It needs shutting down ASAP...are planning to report immediately to Action Fraud and to establish what they already know about this mob and what powers they have to locate their webserver in IP space to knock it over...

  • My Advectus Tracking number works on the new Aurum Parcel .co .uk website surprise surprise. Delivery date has been updated until tomorrow now and in response to my paypal dispute the original advectus tracking information has been supplied with a claim the goods are in transit (and have been since 2nd Dec). Anyone got any further or had any goods delivered?
