For the last 2 months every weekly shop I have done, I have been overcharged by Tesco. Either the price is completely wrong or they haven't included the offer as stated on the shelf edge label, or the best yet, charged me £4.24 for 3 clementines!!!!
I have come to the conclusion that if every shopper was overcharged each time and didn't notice then their profits would soar. Luckily I check mine, it's always a !!!!!! though to get them to pay - double the difference. They refused on the clementines stating it was a weighing failure at the checkout and that it was priced right on the receipt just weighed in wrong!!
I now tell everyone I know about checking every receipt every time and remember about the double the difference pledge.

I thought Their profits came by paying their staff NMW. In Colchester's Highwoods Tesco they have just completed a refurb. and to pay for it they laid-off a lot of staff, then put the rest on 40 hour contracts.
All the staff are well hacked-off, and who can blame them.Never Knowingly Understood.

Patman, not sure who you got your info from. Tesco pay a good bit more than the NMW, they are very reluctant to lay off staff, and will usually always reappoint people to different depts rather than lay off people. Finally, Tesco do not offer 40 hour contracts. The maximum anyone is contracted to now is 36.5 hours a week.0 -
Their profits come from being ridiculously expensive.0

Tesco once had a policy that if you were overcharged then you could have a refund and keep the item.
They withdrew that policy because it was costing them too much money.0 -

The policy was probably withdrawn because people were going into stores to be intentionally overcharged after reading about it on the internet. The policy was in place to help people inconvenienced by Tesco's mistakes, not for people out to make a quick buck.0 -

Not always. It depends on store policy.Reference: F3026/109KR/TESCO
Location: Altrincham, Greater Manchester
Post Code: WA15 9QT
Salary: £6.08 per hour
Position: Part Time (15.25 hrs) per week
£6.08 per hour is the NMW and there are many other positions paying £6.10 & £6.15 per hour. Not exactly "a good bit more" than the NMW.0 -
That isn't a job where you are directly working for Tesco stores, its a merchandiser job for a company called Oakwood, who deal with entertainment for Tesco. After 1 year in Tesco the pay rate is £7 per hour for most jobs, with the rate for the first year around £6.65 per hour.0

A subsidiary of Tesco, so yes, some people are employed by Tesco and being paid the NMW.
The subsidiary setup is simply a way to offload recruitment from the stores to another department.0 -
I'd challenge you to go into a shop and find more than 2 or 3 people employed by Oakwood, compared to the hundreds employed directly by Tesco. Their justification for doing it this way? Couldn't tell you for certain, but I'm sure that there is more than money to it.0

I never stated how many people were employed by Oakwood.
Now I challenge you to admit that your statement that Tesco pays more than the NMW is not always true.
Tesco or Oakwood, one way or another the money still comes from the tesco bank account and Oakwood is entirely owned and run by tesco.0
