    I know when I got married some years ago now the brides would keep the top layer of their wedding cake for the christening of their first baby.My sister kept hers for 5 years thinking it would be ok.When my mum cut the icing there was no cake inside.I`m sure if you fed it,it would return to it`s former glory...HTH and good luck
