Am on the second MR breadmaker. The paddle on the first one went funny a couple of years ago. Phoned MR and they said a new baking tin was £18 + delivery. So at £20 for a new one a great buy. Bake all sorts of bread and rolls in ours using full auto or just dough. Watch your waistline the breads are great.0

People are correct, the problem is caused by water getting in the underside circular casting. The tin has a thick rubber seal from above that keeps water out but nothing from below. If you wash it up in a bowl then water gets in from below and the spindle rusts and seizes up. Its a design fault in my opinion because a few pence of stainless steel spindle would have eliminated the risk for good. But then we know manufacturers are not keen on things lasting forever!
If you remove the circlip you can dismantle it, sand the rust off the pin and smear it with copper grease which stays put in high temperature (Couple of quid in Halfords - its used on back of brake pads) You have to be careful taking it apart and reassembling all the washers and stuff in the right order. But it will not seize again after this.
I will still be changing the machine sometime as I have gone as far as I can with it in my quest for perfection, its been good but now I want to attain my Black Belt in breadbaking.
For £20 its probably not a bad risk - bought bread is a flavourless package for the filling, homemade bread can be as tasty as the filling!0 -
I noticed these in my local sainsburys yesterday - they have quite a few left. Was debating on it, so think I'll go pick one up tonight.

You just carefully wash up the inside of the bowl only - had one fer ages and if u care for it - its fine0

Can confirm JS MILTON KEYNES had at least 1 left last night, after I paid £20 for one (they don't have much display space so may well be more in backroom/store). Still c£50 at Argos.
Haven't baked in it yet but looks promising based on past experience... ie
This was to replace an ex Aldi Delta £25 larger capacity bread maker that had been bought for Xmas BUT it had a fundamental flaw that the TWO paddles stuck fast on their driveshafts, and hence effectively clamped the baked loaf into the tin. Tried twice, once with paddle tops margarined per booklet, and second with shaft olive oil'd and identical failures. Have to say Delta's 01... helpline were incredibly helpful (they suggested the olive oiling that I'd already tried) and were ready to send out a replacement once I mailed in proof of purchase BUT seemed to me to be a design flaw so took back to ALDI for a refund (though that was unusually a hassle being passed around 2 staff/tills and queried 3 times that it was faulty and how!)
Looking forward with anticipation to a loaf that leaves its baking tin tomorrow....0 -
I've made a couple of loaves in mine now - fantastic, the sun dried tomato & herb one I tried 1st went down very well at the girls night in with an Italian theme I took it too

they still had a couple left in the branch yesterday - it's Southend On Sea if thats of any help to anyone...This year, I will mainly be kicking some serious money saving butt!

Why wash it? - we don't - just a quick wipe with a paper towel if necessary.0 -
oiling the pan and paddle using kitchen towel and cooking oil will help it last a bit longer
I tend to wash the pan because there is always a bit of dough left crusted on the paddle and the spindle holding the paddle. washing tends to involve soaking it for a bit then quick brush around and rinse to ensure there are no encrusted bits left.0
