Nursing bras

Any suggestions as to the best place to buy some nursing bras and also which stores will measure you to make sure you get the right fit. From what I have read, you get one cup size up, is this right?? Also how many would you recommend?

Thanks

Mothercare was the best place when i was breastfeeding. They measure you up and make sure the bra fits you properly, i know in my store there is a lady who is trained to do it.

Mothercare is probably the best place for measuring you - but not the cheapest, unfortunately. :(

I wouldn't buy too many to start with. You will find that your measurements fluctuate from the time your milk comes in, to the time that breastfeeding is fully established. You will probably need to get measured again within a few weeks and might have changed by a good few cup sizes! :o

Also, I found that nursing bras tended to have a certain aroma after a while anyway and I had to keep changing them! (Breastmilk has a certain smell!)

I used to do with 3 - one on, one in the wash (with baby clothes every day!) and one in the drawer.

This time round, I have bought only 2 and a feeding vest from Mothercare (£25 for a pair of bras and £10 for the vest) as I also bought £2.25 value shirts from Tesco so they are easy to open/close up when out and about!

But Mothercare is the best place for getting them fitted. The fitters in M&S don't really have the breastfeeding experience.

I'm pretty sure i saw a thread on here in last couple of days for £1 nursing bras at Boots. Hopefully someone will come along who could provide a link or more info.

I had terrible luck with Mothercare. They measured me WAY wrong and the sides of the bras dug in and hurt. Also, they only go up to an E cup.

M&S go up to a G online but my mum could only find an F instore. She's bringing it over tomorrow so I can let you know what the quality is like.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
  • I found all the big chains like Mothercare weren't that good. The best places were the small independent shops where all the staff are trained properly.

I got mine from M&S they were the great and really comfy ,let you into a secret I still wear one of mine ,its not a pretty site but soo comfy for when just doing house work /staying in house ..I cant part with it
  • One of my friend actually went around all the major stores; John Lewis/Mothercare/Frasers/Bravvismo/M&S/Debenhams in Glasgow and got measured while nursing. She reported back that Frasers were the most accurate fit, but blooming expensive. Debenhams/M&S were the least accurate fit and surprisingly unhelpful staff! She ended up getting £7 nursing bras from ASDA which have lasted her 2 pregnancies and fit really well!

Get ones with the catch on the top of the cup that clips onto the bra strap. Don't get ones with zips on the bottom of the cups - ouch!!!!
Here I go again on my own....
