It would be ok if campus photocopying and printing prices were competitive. My uni puts all the decent books on one hour loan so you have no choice but to photocopy them on campus for 8p a sheet

also, is it really necessary to hand in two double spaced, one side printed copies of every essay? They only mark one so surely out of respect for the environment the other could be single spaced and printed on both sides.
:j Baby bonce was born on Christmas morning after a ridiculously short labour and no pain relief! If only losing the baby weight was as easy!:T

I'm doing law at the moment, and they have restricted pretty much everything, first year wasn't too bad, handbooks and everything were freely given out. But now the course handbooks for each module are limited to 70 pages or so, which simply isnt enough, so they make two versions; a small and large.

My argument is that the uni should print it, and make it available online also, then you can buy it off the university for say £2-3? It costs the uni a lot less in paper and toner, when they buy in bulk, than it does printing off 230 page handbooks on an old inkjet.

I tend to not print stuff now, but i've noticed that a lot of students really rely on having something concrete in front of them all the time, I prefer to genuinely understand something, rather than just read something off a peice of paper when asked a question.

OK, 8p a sheet is about like in the old days, is an answer to my question. AFAIK the Uni has to pay copyright as well as printing costs, in some cases at least.

But for the 2nd part is blank paper that unaffordable and your essays that long? It reminds me of the medieval parchment costs, when every bit of paper and parchment would be written over four times. Sorry if I am a bit out of touch. OK I see you have to pay uni price for printing. Don't some students have own computers and printers, club together? I've seen all computer stuff real cheap in uni marts but wise me up if I'm out of touch mnyah mnyah.
Sorry my posts so long - not time write shorter ones.

Not even you Ted are old enough to remember the days before paper.:D

I am not really sure if it is cheaper to print yourself at home or do it at university as I have never worked out how much my printer costs to run.

My objection was that universities could afford handouts last term and just come 2007 for some reason they are passing the printing costs on to students.

It seems strange that is all.

  • You mean like the government decided to pass on tuition fees cost onto the student? It's called cost cutting; you're not meant to like it.

Just wait till you graduate and you realise that you'd need a 7x mortgage to buy a small flat

I doubt homes will ever be affordable for people of my generation.

I know you are not meant to like cost cuttingand I dont!

So who buys them when the older generation dies?

Someone who gets a house left to them.

It takes years to save for a deposit by which time house prices will have doubled again no doubt, so what chance is there?
