University costs

It just seems that you're whining on about something that isn't that important. If you print it off in the university library, printing costs aren't that high at all. Get used to having to pay for things just to get by.Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

It is not that important, but it seems like they charge you more and more to go and yet they still then try to pass more and more of the cost on you.
My mate at another university has not had to buy one text book and all the course materials are provided free of charge. But yet some places expect you to buy 100's of pounds of books and are now added on printing costs too.:beer:0 -

You've always been expected to spend money on books, in fact I'm always surprised how few books are bought these days. You keep on about printing costs but it's your choice. You can read them on line for free. Stop whingeing!0 -
I am over the I hate university as I accept it was the my mistake in picking this course. It is my own fault that I have had the worst three years of my life. So it is not whingeing.:beer:0

Doing a literature course, my book bill even then ran into thousands. I worked during termtime and every holiday in order to pay it off, but I saw it as an investment and a necessity.Touch my food ... Feel my fork!0 -

And also, I hope, a pleasure. (I did literature as well; in those days one could assume that people loved books - nowadays I doubt it.)0 -
It was indeed a pleasure - I specialised in medieval and Renaissance French, and still reread the books. Had I not learned those analytical skills, I doubt I would enjoy reading so much now. My one feeling was that I didn't have enough background historical knowledge to fully appreciate the writings then, but I've gone back to them and see them now in a different light.Touch my food ... I like reading books but just not ones related to my course.
But having a knowledge of Philosophy is extremely useful for reading History and politics which I do enjoy.:beer:0 -
I have not made out what this thread is about and feel like joining G-E in a mnyah mnyah in my time rant. Like in my time there were never either any handouts or online anything so everything was from own notes or understanding of lectures - but they told us the lectures should be regarded as guide to reading purely. For final year there were no textbooks as none had been written yet, everything had to be got from original literature, I don't remember that the volumes could be taken away or they were the sort of volume you wouldn't. You could get a photocopy, printed amber on yellow pages and ghastly paper, it cost you equivalent of maybe 10 or 20p
/page so you didn't have many. Taught you intellectual independence I guess.
I don't know what this thread is complaining about. Can you download the online stuff from home or do you have to go ito uni and pay prices like I did per page? If your cost is only paper and ocasional ink - and many unis have shops or marts where even those are lower cost than to general public - isn't that trivial or am I missing a point?Sorry my posts so long - not time write shorter ones.0 -
It's just another moan about something else not handed to Phil on a plate.Touch my food ... Feel my fork!0
