I am firmly rooted at my DD's house for Christmas now! .... But my firmly rooted HYACYNTHS will now be on my DOORSTEP for approx 2 whole weeks!!!:eek::eek:

Doubt they are going to survive , don't know how hardy Hyacynths are especially in a dark BOX! lol

    :(:(:(

It could be the best place for them - nice & dark & cool to prevent too much flowering. They are garden bulbs which are grown under particular conditions to bloom early & indoors.
You get them in the garden centres as 'forced' bulbs. We used to plant these in a container every year for great-gran and then leave them in the shed under a box until the shoots were a little way above the rim of the pot, then bring them gradually to the window.
You need to make sure that all bulbs are the same variety though as they have different rates of growth - as my MIL found out when she took the job on one Autumn whilst we were on holiday. :D
You do find when you plant them in the garden though, that the blooms are never as tight as they were - and although the smell is still lovely, it's not as intense.
You might find Cazzap, if the foliage is spoilt, that you'll still be able to cut the blooms to use in a vase & then just keep the bulbs for the garden.

My hyacinth arrived today. All my Christmas plant pressys to me, from me, are now delivered :)
  • Mine have arrived now, as well as those I sent as gifts - unanimously over the moon with them. All excellent quality & outstanding value for money, IMO. Solved a good few gift problems, where postage may have been an issue. Many thanks cazzap06 - a really great 'Grabbit'!
  • I'm very disappointed as recieved a letter yesterday to confirm my order had been dispatched, and then another letter today to say my card had been declined. Rang customer services and she said it had definitely not been dispatched, card payment had gone through fine but the item was OOS. I am especially annoyed as I ordered this over a week ago and have had my Nan waiting for it as it was for her birthday present. I will be hard pushed now to get a plant delivered before xmas and I don't want to upset her and tell her it's not coming. I know some will think it's to be expected from a £4.99 plant, but I would have happily paid more if I had realised.
It seems like everyone else's have been arriving as well- it's been a very unlucky year for me!!!!
