It will most likely be because you have only been around a few weeks and have contributed very little except trying to start arguments and derailing threads.0 -

Exactly.
We STR'd for a short time (8 months) and did well out of it, but we'd have done even better had we sold both houses before the Crash, instead of the cheaper one first! Significantly, it was a big lifestyle move and we had no mortgage to complicate things either.
We were intending to move to Wales and take advantage of the lower prices there, but we'd have rented first to see how the land lay.....different culture and all that.
However, our daughter had signed herself up for a year at a local college, so we hung around waiting for that to finish. Suddenly, a couple of places in the Westcountry came up, both with motivated sellers, and here we are in one of them.
Looking at the way prices went, I can't help thinking that daughter did us a favour!
What motivated the lifestyle change? My wife and I are probably 5-10 years from retirement and occasionally think about moving somewhere like Devon/Cornwall. But it’s not really that much warmer than Surrey.
Alternatively we may end up spending the winters in South Spain, although we don't like the idea of leaving our house empty for 4 months every year, and I don't think we would rent it out as it's our home. Plus it isn’t easy to get exactly what you want when renting over there, I don’t think I would want the hassle of owning a second home over there.

I doubt if anywhere other than the far south coast is significantly warmer than Surrey, except perhaps in mid-winter, when it's also much wetter!
We moved because we wanted to own a smallholding. We felt that if we stayed in the city we'd just go on doing the same things, and get unfit into the bargain. No chance of that here! :rotfl:0 -

Winter is the issue though, we're not looking for warmer spring or summers, we are looking for milder (or warm) winters. Which is why the focus turned to Spain, we were considering seriously looking into it just over a year ago. But I ended up coming out of early retirement to start working again which has put things on hold for a few years. It's about 16/17 degrees from Dec - Feb in Southern Spain at the warmest part of the day so although not hot still comfortable enough to enjoy outdoor activities.
Is the new lifestyle working out as you had hoped? I think if we had a small farm all the animals would end up being named and probably become more like pets.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

Sibley and mr ree only attack selfish FTB's who are praying a family are repossessed and made homeless so they can pick up the home at a discount.0 -

Yes, but we've gone into it gently by working with a farming partner, so although I look after the sheep, for example, I don't take them to market or get seriously into lambing.
Similarly, we don't need too much equipment for stuff like pasture maintenance/haymaking. I prefer just to take a smaller cut of whatever's made, and preferably in kind. Pork, lamb & logs are alternative currencies here. Some people will swap skills for products too, like a day's tree felling or fencing.
We have hens, and most don't have names! I've had to bump a couple off, which is OK, because I've had experience in that area before. My main specialism is more on the veg and fruit side though.0 -

Totally agree. I myself have sold to rent recently due to relocation.
I was talking about the very small minority, normally found on HPC who have sold the family home to rent, simply because they reckon their property vaule is going to fall - that is madness.
Theres an awful lot of time and effort gone into talking about a "small minority".
Years it seems.0
