Morrisons don't have a warehouse!!

I went into my local Morrisons last week (where I have shopped for the last 5 years) to find one item I needed was out of stock on the shelf. My daughter found a staff member in the next aisle and asked if he could check in the warehouse for us. He told her that all stock is on the shop floor. I then asked him how he would know about that particular item without looking first, he directed me to a supervisor.
The supervisor then informed me that they do not have a warehouse and that all stock items are put on the shelves as soon as deliveries arrive overnight. I asked her if the gentleman my daughter asked was nightstaff, she said he wasn't, so I asked how it was possible that he was restocking the shelves at 3.30pm if they don't have a warehouse to stock items? She duly told me she would check the warehouse for me and then probably went and stood somewhere for a few minutes while she "checked", came back with a smug look on her face and said "Sorry, we don't have any".
I really can't believe how lazy people can be, don't they know that by going out of their way to check stock, people will remember the good service?
Btw, I know they have warehousing because other staff members have checked stock in the past, and my other daughters boyfriend actually works in the bakery of this store!

You do know the difference between a warehouse and a stock room? My local Morrissons doesnt have a large area out back but it is filled with cages that are ready to roll in and out to keep the levels acceptable and then they get refreshed each night.

Google " just in time" delivery...Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Thanks, warehouse/stock room/place in the back where you store stuff ready to go onto the shop floor, all means the same to me.
I know they have a warehouse and/or a stock room. The warehouse is located underneath the store (where the deliveries are made), the stock room to the back of the store. It was all called a warehouse (or out the back) when I worked at Asda, you had to wear a high vis vest and follow the pathways marked out because there was always a fork lift or lorry unloading somewhere.
Regardless, she could have checked the 'stock room'.Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs

I wonder if she would have been allowed to take one even if she had found one on a pallet. Don't they have fixed procedures for introducing these things into the shop? Would 'elf and safety allow her to try and open a pack and just remove or or a few items?0

Have you ever worked in one?
Checking the stock room is usually a pointless exercise because it is often so hard to find things in.
If you think about it logically if they do run an efficient JIT ordering system they wouldn't need a warehouse to store stock just a holding area for the cages that are delivered before they are taken out onto the shop floor. Seems like an efficient and cost effective way of doing business.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

I have asked staff members in the past to check stock, and they have willingly and helpfully obliged, so I know there is 'something' out there.
According to my daughters boyfriend, there is a huge area where they hold stock.Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs

I agree, however, the staff member in question was clearly from that area of the store (and I have been told that is the case), so surely she would have known (roughly) where to look.
Also, when I worked at Asda it was on the checkouts, however, occassionally we were asked to do other jobs and this included assisting customers. On several occassions I successfully managed to find items in a very huge warehouse/stock room.Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs

I used to work in a large well know department store.
We did not have a stock room (central London was too pricey for such non-profitable space usage) but people insisted we should check stock.
To keep them quiet we used to go into the staff stairwell and come out minutes later saying 'no- we do not have anymore'.
Customer was happy- we did not have to spend ages explaining why we had no stock room.
Stock would be wheeled in as soon as the shop closed.0 -
A lot of shops dont have much in store space warehouse/stock room some that did have opened up this space for customers, I assume stock comes in daily to replenish missing goods0

Just because Delieveries are made underneath the store does not mean that they have excessive amounts of storage areas there. If they get their stuff delivered daily - which is likely - it will all be in cages and labelled up as such ready to be wheeled out when programmed. They would probably take an age to go round and check all the cages for your one product and then have to tally it up with the sotres manager to make sure he didnt think staff were stealing from the cages before it went on the shelves.
ASDA where you worked out was probably a massive store with in built facilities to hold lots of stock I reckon - not every store is the same you know."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0
