My Telly Blew Up

Last night whilst enjoying a movie my TV decided to go and blow up.
So now I need to buy a new one and don't know where to start!
I don't know a thing about TV's i just don't want to get mugged off I think our old one is about a 36 or 38 inch screen, so that size is what i want.
I don't know the difference between plasma and LCD and LED, which is best? Which manufacturer is best? Where can i get the best deal?
thanks in advance

You'll be looking for a 42 if you had a 36 or 38 before as new flat screens look smaller, I think led is best but some folk Prefer plasma, LCD is cheapest0

Thank you

Don't think we want 3d telly as we only use freeview and regular dvds so don't think it would be worth the extra spend.
Do you know what shops would be a good place to try to buy one and walk away with? Just don't fancy a weekend in with no telly! And can't go out as need to have money for the telly!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Find the TV you want online (search amazon for ease) and then go to....
Richer sounds if you have one - they are usually very cheap and will provide you with a 5 year warranty for 10% of the purchase price.
or
John Lewis - they give you an extra year on your warranty free - if you mention you've seen it cheaper online they may be able to price match - depends who you get on the day.
Like others have said, budget is important....specify budget and take it from there...for example a number of places are throwing in free blu-ray players at the moment
