We got our stove opening sides (sides directly beside the fire cemented on Monday of this week, the plaster on the chimney breast was done yesterday (Wednesday). We want to paint this all at some stage, but obviously we want to wait tilll it fully drys but would it be ok to still light the stove. I was thinking sunday for the first light, do you think this would be too soon or ok to fire ahead?

I think it is best to allow the plaster to dry out naturally as much as possible to try to avoid possible cracking. I know you must be looking forward to lighting your stove, but if you can allow a couple of days more it will be to the benefit of the plaster. When you do finallly give in to temptation start with small fires for the first few days to allow your stove to settle in and stove cement to set etc.If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you! :dance:0

I have to agree - hubby is a builder and he hates when theres a rush and heaters are bought in and plaster work cracks
All depends on what paster was used, some take weeks - others a week0 -
it was a very thin layer of plaster, already most of it has changed from dark pink to light pink. I put a dehumidifier in the room one night and this seemed to work a treat. I was thinking as the cement is the area that will receive the main heat and it will be in near a week and the plaster with the heat of the room the stove would be ok to light on sunday. I intedn to start with small wood only fires for a few days.
Will the cement be ok to light it up and if the plaster has al gone light pink?0 -
Do you still have the bags from the cement.
Should have curing times on it, but usually 2-3 days.0 -
