Atlantic

Had my electricity bill a couple of days ago, it was an estimated bill and when I checked the units they had estimated against the true reading Atlantic had hopelessly underestimated. As I pay by monthly s/o I phoned them to give the correct readings. This resulted in my monthly d/d shooting up from £80pm to £120pm. All this despite changing all light bulbs to low energy and of course over the last few months as the weather has been very favourable not so much electricity has been used (storeage heater wise) - heaven only knows what the reading would have been had it of been a really cold winter. Today, I receive a letter from Atlantic telling me they will be reducing the cost of electric and gas in the months ahead. Seems ironic that although energy costs have risen over the last 12 months - they haven't gone up 50% so why has by bill ??. I am wondering if my newly fitted leccy meter is at fault, they came and fitted one of those new digital meters (white with flashing red light) back in May - so who knows ??

Are you saying categorically that the number of units you have used (according to your meter) is much higher than it was this time last year?
  • OK - having checked the units used 2007 viz a viz 2006 over the same period I find my day units are up from 5445 to 6821 and night units up from 2218 to 3368. Its all a bit concerning as I know for sure I have used less electricity this winter due to the milder weather - obviously I expect a larger bill due to the fuel cost increase, but on the unit count alone the variation of unit count makes not one iota difference. I now think perhaps my new meter is the culprit, but there again perhaps the new meter is correctly calebrated and my old one was reading slow in my favour. Seems to me to be a no win situation, as if I suggest the meter is faulty I will undoubtedly have to pay for a check if the meter is sound.

It's interesting that those figures show a 50% increase in night units and a 25% increase in day units. I might have expected similar increases if it were simply down to the meter. Those figures do look pretty hard to explain, though, unless you've been doing something significantly different than last year.

This has happened to me which is why I am suspicious. I don't use hardly any electric and they seem to think I have been underpaying, despite giving them readings along the way. I think they are trying to pull a fast one and this needs to be investigated. Whenever I email them or telephone I seem to either not get a reply or am told a different reason everytime. I feel they are using delay tactics with me. Perhaps we all need to get together and have them looked into. I was paying (with thier advice) £23 a month. They are now asking for £90 a month. Something is wrong here.
  • I am whizzing off a letter to them - lets wait and see what the response is - but i'm not holding my breath !!

I am so frustrated with them. They tell me they will get back to me the next day (they don't) they ask me to email them back (I do and I don't hear anything) I speak to different advisers who tell me different things. They do all have one thing in common though, they have strong south Wales accents.

I believe they are using delay tactics. Its very fishy.

I changed to Atlantic over 13 months ago and was promised a loyalty bonus after 13 months. When this did not materialize I phoned and was told it was not input on the computer. It has been amended and I will receive £60. back. Check your small print and make a note when your 13 months is up.

I have been with Atlantic for over 12 months and I did get my 1 months free standing order charge credited to my bank account, so I can't fault Atlantic on that particular aspect. ie you get 12 months of leccy for 11 months payments
