"More than 3,000 jobs were saved yesterday when the childrenswear chain Adams was bought out of administration. The deal, involving the retail entrepreneur John Shannon, formerly chairman of the shoe firm Stead & Simpson and the Country Casuals clothing chain, ensures that 273 stores will remain open. The administrator, PricewaterhouseCoopers, said it had not been possible to save 42 branches, affecting about 400 jobs."

thats really sad, i think the adams clothes are lovely and reasonably priced too. Will have to check my nearest 2 stores, as i have £20 voucher to spend quick smart!!

I am so surprised that anyone thinks this!

I think Adams clothes are vastly overpriced compared to Tesco, Asda, Woolworths etc - and similar quality. I only ever buy them in the sale. It is no surprise to me that they were on the verge of going down the pan! Maybe this will shake them up a bit and prices will become a bit more realistic.

I still have some Adams vouchers; will these be worthless?
Wondering whether to try to spend them quick if my local store's still open, not sure that there's anything I need though but don't want to lose the money.
  • I used a "promotional" £5.00 voucher in the Adams shop at Washington Galleries on Saturday with no problem (it was one of the limited validity ones and had been issued at Sunderland the previous week) so I would think that the vouchers should be valid in the shops which are still open.

My store (Inverness) took vouchers yesterday. The staff said that all the stores that are closing are now closed and it's pretty much "back to normal" now.

Banbury closed on Friday but Bicester still open.

There is a concession of Adams in Sainsbury's in Banbury but I've not heard or seen anything yet as to whether Adams is being withdrawn from sainsbury's stores. Does anyone know?
