Why would you want to insure a 2nd vehicle?

It's normal to only give one lot of no claims per vehicle you own. Admiral do a two vehicle policy, have you tried them?

  • Still a lot of money for someone your age unless you live in a high risk area, not putting someone else who might be a bad risk as a named driver on are you.
  • my partner is second driver on my current policy she uses this car and i would like a car for myself will just have to fish around

Which sounds like "fronting" to me. If your partner is the main driver then she should have her own insurance on the vehicle (with you named as an additional driver).

Many insurers will mirror the NCD on a second car but you have to phone and ask rather than just going on a comparison site. Though what you're doing sounds like your partner should be the main driver, freeing up your NCD for the fiesta.
  • Yeah the insurance companies only allow you to use NCD on one policy at a time. But if you have an accident or make a claim on one policy, you have to tell them all so they can put the price up.

    Insurance companies are well dodgy.

You conclude it is fronting based on the OP saying her partner "uses" the car? How do you know that the OP hasn't listed her partner as the main driver?

Strictly speaking you should transfer your insurance onto the new car, and let your partner get her own insurance as main driver on the focus in her name, with you as named driver, and it may be possible to negotiate a deal with an insurer, or through a broker to get her a mirrored no claims to match her time a a named driver on your policy.

If you are going to share the cars, insurers tend not to probe too deeply into who is main driver unless you front for your kids, so the other way to do it is to let her insure the fiesta in her name, with the same deal if she can negotiate one, and switch cars occaionally, so you do both drive each others.
If you build up a no claims for her, switch when you do use the cars exclusively.

Without knowing if you're male or female, certainly female car insurance is cheaper, so you may save that way as well if she is the policyholder.
