Thanks, I think it is a bargain and got one for myself. My Dell X5 was getting a bit dated.0

Totally agree. If you are in the market for a PDA and a Sat Nav then this should accomodate both desires but at a compromise. There are better PDAs and definately much better Sat Navs but for a combined unit this is a very good price. All the latest offers on PDA GPS devices have been for Windows Mobile 2003 devices, this is one of the first for a Windows Mobile 5 version Ive seen at such a good price.0 -
Had it been heavier to get the GPS built into it - I'd have leapt at it - but I really do tend to end up driving to places to find I have to park 10 minutes away and then try to get to the place on foot. (Pedestrianised city centres, god love em.

yeah I agree with Jakaru, defo would prefer the Gps built in. but a great find none the less. Anyone know if the gps part detaches from the dashboard mount?0

I have an ACER N35 which is a PDA based GPS system.
Several advantages for a PDA based system over a GPS only system (Tom Toms, garmins etc).
I do a lot of contract work abroad, so find a lot of uses for mine including ;
1) GPS, I have TOM TOM 6 loaded with full postcode search, works fine on a 266Mhz processor.
2) I added an SDIO Wireless card and can now surf the net when at home on my wireless network.
Also more importantly I can surf the net and check e-mail anywhere in the world as ling as I can find a WIFI hot spot.
3) I can use Skype on my PDA anywhere in the world, again using a WIFI hot spot. That means free PC - PC calls from anywhere in the world and reduced price calls (1p a minute of avaerage) back home wherever I am.
4) I use my PDA as an MP3 player a lot whilst flying, hrow in a 2 Gig SD Card and that keeps me entertained on flights.
5) You can play Divx movies as well on the PDA, one movie will fit on a 1 gig card, again entertainment on the move.
Added to that the games and applictions you can dowenload for free legally and the PDA GPS based system makes sense for my needs.
Yes the screen isn't massive for surfing the net but it's meant to be used for quick net checks etc and not surfing for hours on end.
Some websites do have PDA friendly sights which get rid of the large pics etc to make sufing easier.
So if you just want a GPS system for the car and nothing else then a Tom Tom, Garmin,Medion etc system would be for you.
If you want a system which is a GPS system, allows surfing, checking e-mails, MP3 player, Movie player etc etc then a PDA based system is for you.
Think of a PDA based system as a swiss army knife, many many useful functions packed into a small package.0 -
That's interesting, given the N35 is the one I'd thought would be best for me. An SD wireless card, hmmm, must look into that. Hard though to Surf on WIFI and do stuff if you're making considerable use of the SD slot of expanded storage I'd have thought?0

Springbok, i think that your post perfectly sums up why this system is a bargain, for the use's you've detailed it is perfect, it's not an ipod, video viewer, entertainment system or pc for surfing the net but a very good basic version of all of these. I've never got to grips with WAP or surfing with a screen this small and i wouldn't want to try and buy a washing machine online with it but its a great way to get specific info and emails etc. I've downgraded my smartphone to a Nokia 1112 (with B&W screen) and one of these to compliment it, can't wait for delivery0 -
Out of Stock now.
Or pulled cos they got the price wrong......British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -

This is the SDIO wireless card I bought from EBUYER for £20 + P+P.
With the SD card yes you can only do one thing at a time, i.e
SD card in with Tom Tom maps
or
SDIO wireless card for internet
or
SD card for MP3 and Video.
To be honest though PDA's really aren't meant to multitask anyway.
Have a search for the N35 online.
Some people have complained that the charging / sync socket on the unit can fail after time, which means no charging of the battery or syncing with the dekstop.
Also it's not the latest spec PDA, a couple of years out of date, but it does everything I ask of it.
I have had mine for 2 years now and it has been to many countries and on many flights where my work has taken me. I haven't had a problem with the charging socket.
I did just replace the battery on it though, but it has had a lot of use in the last 2 years and served me well.
I'm almost tempted to get another as a spare whilst Total PDA have them for £104 in P+P (doesn't come with Tom Tom software).
I'm 99% sure that the Navman Pin570 that Halfords have for £100 at the moment has the same guts as the Acer N35, a clone if you will. Thereis a thread on here about the Navman Pin 570, lots of people seem to like it. As with the N35 it doesn't come with Tom Tom either, some other software for navigation.
Now where is my wallet
One important thing I forgot to mention (goes for all GPS systems) is the stress relief it can give the husband whilst on holiday.
We are off to Florida on Sunday to see Mickey and his pals, the PDA has US maps loaded and ready for action. All the park locations are loaded
It's got to be worth a £100 just for that alone0 -

**Take a look at the Amazon page to see what the PDA looks like out of the holder.
