I'm getting ill with worry about animal abuse.

How do all you animal lovers cope?
I read the most horrendous story about dogs in the Phllipines last week in the Express.
I can't stop crying!
I have my own gorgeous rescue dog, who has a great life now, but I just can't stop thinking about these dogs getting killed to be eaten.
They suffer so much pain as the more pain they suffer the more tender the meat is!
I feel permanantly sick!

By focusing on what you're doing to help

You know that you've made that little bit of difference within your power, by taking in your rescue dog.
I rescued my cat and, for their short little lives, I rescued chickens too.
We're the ones making a positive difference in the world

I must admit I try and avoid these stories. I hate cruelty to animals or people of any kind. What you can do is just do your bit if you feel you can donate something then do that, in a small way by doing that you do make a difference. Try and not let it upset you you cant correct all the wrongs in life unfortunately0

It's good that you have a kind heart, but you also need to keep things in perspective and not make yourself ill by it. Humans are suffering in the world as well. It an aspect of life - we've all got to deal with. (When I see dogs suffering it really gets to me). I've had two resue dogs now.
How about challenging that negative upset into a positive by volunteering for an animal charity.
It is also feasible that if the subject matter is so painfull too you that you might just have to try and avoid reading animal cruelty reports and not volunteering for your own sanity!
Try and find a balance with it, as it makes no sense to make yourself ill.0 -

lots of animals get killed for food , and in fact stress ruins the meat apparently so not sure where the bit about 'the more pain they suffer the better the meat 'comes from.
As another poster says there are a lot of people in the world suffering as wellVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
Volunteering as suggested is a good suggestion assuming you have some time. It also keep you busy so less likely to worry and you are doing something positive. Oh and give your dog a cuddle and it might cheer you up0

I agree, I have never heard about pain making the meat better. I was always raised to believe that a stress free life ( or as stress free as possible) makes the meat better as it does not change the PH level so much and does then not taint the meat.
So I have no idea where that idea about pain comes from but I can't find anything on google to support it.
As for dogs being eaten, well..yes we raise them as pets but that is not the same the world over and as long as we eat meat then we have little right to complain about others.
I have no time for cruelty but all meat ends in death and most meat animals don't have the perfect life here so maybe get involved with the organic / free range movement over here and make a change closer to home.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

And this is why I never ever watch horror films, because I know someone or something is going through the experience pimped as entertainment.0

? You mean that there is someone out there who was attacked by killer spiders / snakes / Aliens / Clowns / dolls ?
There are of course some horror films that are based around real life crimes ( Texas chainsaw etc) but watching it or not does not stop the crime happening.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

Here's a question.
Animal cruelty makes the majority of people very angry. Thus, any politician or government that brought in severe penalties for animal cruelty would see an immediate rise in their popularity.
Why doesn't it happen? Why do the politicians act against their own best interest?"Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
