Cool. Thanks for the IMEI number, I'll use it to unbrick one of the stolen mobile phones I have whose IMEI number has been blacklisted by the mobile networks.
If I were you, I'd edit the post and remove the IMEI number although it may be too late...0 -

That's just scaremongering and an urban myth. IMEI numbers are produced using a simple formula. Its trivial to generate one, certainly would be much easier for a criminal than searching fora to find one.
Secondly, a duplicate IMEI will soon be detected and blocked.
A constructive response to the OP.
The only way to unlock and keep the manufacturer's warranty is with the code from the manufacturer database. You can either get this from your service provider (may be a charge) or buy from a third party with legitimate licensed access(definitely a charge - £20 up )
Free codes will almost definitely not work.
Alternatively, a local independent phone shop can unlock however, this will void your warranty.0 -
I took mine to a local independent phone shop and he unlocked it in a few minutes for £10. I tested it there and then with a different providers sim to make sure it was ok (which it was). I switched from Virgin to giffgaff (O2) but also tried out Orange.
It was out of warranty so that wasn't an issue to me.0 -
Urban myth. It is merely changing the carrier ID flag in the phone via software.
Wrong again. It is not an urban myth.
The Nokia warranty is invalidated if any modification has been made to either the phone or software by anyone other than an authorised nokia service centre.
From the Nokia European warranty terms and conditions. This Limited Warranty is not enforceable if the Product has been opened, modified or repaired by anyone other than an authorised service centre, if it is repaired using unauthorised spare parts or if the Product's serial number, the mobile accessory date code or the IMEI number has been removed, erased, defaced, altered or are illegible in any way and this shall be determined in the sole discretion of Nokia0 -
