Medical Trials/Reasearch - Human Guinea Pig

All of the trials go under rigorous testing before any sort of human trials are performed.
They are performed in a place that you could receive urgent attention if needed due to allergic reaction etc.
And of course some are going to slip through the net, they always have and they always will... look at thalidomide.
Does anyone know of any companies operating in Scotland though?I'd probably take part! More out of interest than the money.... (studying med)

i heard an ad on the radio last year and signed up. I wish I had done it when I was a super skint student!
It's based in Ruddington near Nottingham and as a volunteer you are free to leave any trial if you dont like the sound of it.
you get travel payments to get there (which is a bit more than I pay for petrol) and very nice payments for your time.
The trials are all very different, some for IV medication, inhalers and pills (that I have seen so far). Sometimes the trials are for drugs that have previously been on the market in a different form, such as IV, but trying it as a pill, and similar. SOmetimes they are new.
Ive been getting regular emails inviting me to trials and I have done one so far. The emails tell you the details of the trial, so you can decide if it is for you or not.
It's a good excuse to get away from home for a bit when you're doing a trial, and you get your meals cooked for you! BUt be advised to take lots of things to do, as it can get a bit boring (Take DVD's laptop, games, hobbies (I took my sewing!)) They have tv and dvd player and pool table and Wifi!
They are a lovely bunch there and are doing really well at the moment so are recruiting new volunteers all the time!
the website is www. we need you . co .uk
(it wont let me post a link as i'm new; although I'm not really new, I had to set up a new account as i've forgotten my password!!)
If you do sign up to this, if you want to pop my name in the 'has anyone recommended you?' box in the application form, they will give me a bonus
My name is Marie Edwards
I would very much appreciate it if you did, but it's your choice. The money wouldn't gpo anywhere else, so it seems a shame not to
If you want to ask me more about this, go ahead. I wish I had signed up years ago!!! There's a trial that I cannot commit to due to work, but wish I could as it pays out £3700!
it has loads of info on the webby and you can go for an induction to ask any more questions. They are taking their time in recruiting as there are so many applications to go through, but be persistant and you'll get it (if you're suitable). Message me if it's taking too long and I can give you a direct email to hurry them along.
Hope this has helped some people!

Hi all, thanks for sharing your experiences and enthusiasm.
I'd really like to sign up but getting time off work is proving difficult atm. Maybe I need to just bite the bullet and do it then book the time off telling them it's a hospital appointment. Though no-one should have to explain why they want to take their annual leave entitlement! Why do I always feel like I do?
Claribel, sorry I didn't realise there was another thread on this. I shall search for it now.
Thanks again all.

Hi, I don't know if it's still out there, but try looking up phase2 testing. I think there used to be a guide to all the places that carry out medical trials. I haven't looked into it for years, but did give it some consideration. There are obviously risks, and the length of the trials vary, but I have read about people just being required to eat diet food, or even take placebo drugs. The money didn't look too bad either, but I suppose you have to weigh up the potential risks too. I found that you could take part in these trials in most cities.🎄PAYDBXMAS21 #11 £11,300/£11300

I wouldn't mind the money but I would be too worried to be honest! I watch too many films etc - I saw *retreat* and that featured testing etc.
I do fancy it though!!!0 -
Basically, the more informed you are about the potential side effects and the things you will have to do to partiicpate, the better. Every trial is different, so ask all the basic and more detailed questions afresh every time you sign up. The MHRA are a regulatory body for medicines so look at their website for info on clinical trials. Just know what you're signing up for, be honest when giving the company the info they need, and don't be afraid to ask about the risks involved.0

unfortunately due to health reasons I cant participate, I was rejected a couple of years ago, and then had a diagnosis on a test I had been waiting on
guess they got the results before me.0
