HSBC no longer doing BACS

The last couple of days, HSBC online banking hasn't let me pay my Lloyds TSB credit card bill from my standard HSBC current account.
Thought this was just down to the whole online banking system being flaky, but no: HSBC are no longer doing BACS - it's FP and standing orders via FP only.
That leaves me to um... mail a cheque to Lloyds TSB... ?! :-(.
OK, I know this is more LTSB's fault for taking so long to implement incoming FPS on their credit cards - but isn't this going to be hugely disruptive?
"Thank you for your recent Secure e-Message.
I regret currently we are unable to make your bill payment set up on your account in favour of XXXXX.
The Payment Services Regulations provide that all sterling payments made within the UK must reach the beneficiary bank by the next working day with effect from 1 January 2012.
Some financial institutions may not be able to accept Bill Payments and standing orders made via the faster payments and two day payment route. If this is the case:
Bill Payment - a message will be displayed if the beneficiary bank is not able to accept the payment. In these instances, the customers should use an alternative method.
Further, we are making changes to our processes to comply with these Regulations from 3 December 2011. This means we will not be able to use a payments system called the Bankers Automated Clearings System (BACS) after this date as this system takes 3 working days to clear payments.
The beneficiary mentioned above is unable to accept bill payments made through the two payment systems, we and most other banks are using to comply with the requirements of the Payment Service Regulations.
You can choose to leave the instruction in place, as the beneficiary may be able to accept payments made through these 2 payment systems in the near future, however this cannot be guaranteed. Alternatively you can cancel your instruction now and make alternative payment arrangements as listed below.
-Issue a cheque
-Raise a Bankers Draft (standard fees apply); or-
-Make a payment by debit card or credit card if the payment is made to a major beneficiary.
-Bank Giro credit
For more details, may I request you to contact the above beneficiary directly.
Please note that it might take up to two days for us to reply to any messages received through this service. Therefore, for any time critical requests which need immediate action, may I suggest that you call our Customer Services Centre on the number given below:

Synchronisation problem of short duration one would hope?
Debit Card?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
It's odd. Halifax credit cards are now accepting FP, you'd have thought Lloyds would have implemented it on their own cards first before HalifaxDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0

Had the same problem. But also couldn't pay over the phone with my debit card to LLoyds? They have no solution other than go to the branch. Sorry, have I just gone back in time. I don't even think there is a branch in my neck of the woods!0

OK .......... Direct Debit then! There has to be a way ......... and that's the safest after all?
I pay all my cards that way ...... and have never had any issues to date. (And it will go via BACS!)If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I have a DD set up, but as the DD doesn't go out until the 10th, and I get paid on the 25th, I like to pay it the day I get paid. I know money is better in my account than theirs and all that. But money in my account gets spent!!!!
I recently paid my professional subscription on the card and got refunded into my account by work, and wanted to clear it off my credit card but can't unless I go into the branch...
I'm still finding it hard to comprehend that in this day in age the only way other than DD is by cheque or in person... Come on?????0 -

tried to pick up phone and quote Lloyds themselves:
"we cannot accept payment by debit card unless it is a Lloyds debit card"
I kid you not!0 -

How do I make a payment?
You can make a payment to your credit card in a number of different ways:- Internet Banking – if you have a Lloyds TSB account, you can register for Internet banking and make the payment online. Find out more about how to pay your credit card online.
- At a bank – use the Bank Giro Credit slip to pay by cash or cheque over any bank counter. There may be a charge if the payment is made at a Bank other than Lloyds TSB.
- Direct Debit – a payment taken each month from a bank or building society of your choice and paid directly into your credit card account.
- By cheque - use the Bank Giro Credit slip and envelope supplied with your monthly statement.

Can you clarify, is the problem here with HSBC or Lloyds? From what I read in the OP it appears HSBC are changing their system to comply with new regulations but Lloyds are not yet compliant, is my understanding correct?0
