It was such an engrossing show, I really enjoyed it too. That woman did my head in. It was the way she explained how much he loved it in one breath and then in another was calling him selfish for not giving it up! REAL job satisfaction is pretty rare, and I was thinking I would cut back on every bill and expenditure if my OH found a job he loved and wanted to stay in it.
I laughed at the Eco home couple too!:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -
Serves her right for doing her dirty washing in public. What did she expect?not_tonight_josephine wrote: »Interestingly enough, there was a column on the programme in the Guardian yesterday and Nathalie commented on the article a few times - it sounded very much as though the programme had been edited to make her look bad, she certainly comes across a lot better in her comments here:

I think the woman had a point as he did seem quite selfish - maybe not selfish per se but singleminded? It takes two to make a baby remember so why are you all seeming to imply that she "trapped" him?
Well, they met at a student's union bar - her highest education level is GCSEs. What was she doing there in the first place?
Then, they fall pregnant after 6 weeks of dating. Yes, accidents can happen, and he should have kept the rubber on, but still. I can see how people can construe it as "trapping".
EDIT: I have now read the linked Guardian article and the comments, and see that she was studying at Birkbeck at the time. The comments present a much better picture of the couple and their current relationship (the programme was, apparently, filmed a year ago).Cogito, ergo sum.0 -
can anyone tell me what the point of the programme was it was just talking to people about money and asking personal questions. Any one of us could be on it we all have a story and a background and an opinion on money. Perhaps it was just on as it was cheap to make.:footie:0

I think the only sad thing about the scientist and his wife is that a scientist doing valuable research is paid so little. His work and dedication that could vastly improve people's life and well being is being given £34000 as opposed to someone whose entire career is dedicated to self interest! They wouldn't be in this position if this was different. I would suggest he tries to find somewhere better paid in this line of work. Maybe in a different country. It has been done, where scientists combine research with teaching. Maybe his field is not suitable for such but I don't know enough. She must be very frustrated to suggest drastic changes and only they know and live their problems.0

The comment thread in the guardian article is indeed interesting reading, I suggest everybody who watched the programme has a read.0 -
Thank you , I did. The woman's even dafter than I thought she was. Still, she's had her five minutes of fame which I expect is what she wanted.Person_one wrote: »The comment thread in the guardian article is indeed interesting reading, I suggest everybody who watched the programme has a read..................

I thought that the jobless couple seemed quite sweet at the beginning, but I was really shocked when they said they were trying for a baby. The stupidity amazes me sometimes. The PP who said only the caravan couple were in love; I think the Ghanaian couple seemed REALLY in love. Either way, most couples won't seem in love when you start grilling them about their attitudes to money. It's hardly the most romantic subject!
The previous programme sickened me quite a lot. The young ones, especially. I hope they don't look back in ten years time and regret wasting their years and money away on those silly conferences and books. From what I saw, many of the 'rich' interviewees were only rich because silly people kept paying them money to be told to jump up and down and convince themselves life will get better. How one can, after spending 50,000 pounds they don't have on conferences and ending up near bankruptcy, still believe they will earn seven million in a few years is beyond me! I think some of these people are on another planet :eek:0 -
I felt sorry for the guy with the nurse wife. He looked like a scared rabbit caught in the headlights. No wonder he was too scared to tell her about not paying the 25,000. She looked a right haridan
They say opposites attract well that is certainly true for some of these couples0 -
And it was shocking too the way the cat was drinking out of the milk jug.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0
