Hey Blushing Rose, following from what FResh Princess said - you should be eligible for income-based JSA (there are two strands to JSA - contributions based and income-based). The benefit is there to help people in need, it might not feel great but hey, if it helps you pay the bills, then it is probably worth checking out again.
Are you entitled to any other benefits....housing benefit (if you're renting) / council tax benefit?0 -
(((blushingrose))) it is ok to cry, let it all out. It's ok. Life does that to us sometimes. Don't try to be strong. Just let it all out and once you have cried yourself silly, go to bed, rest sleep, eat well etc, treat yourself fantastically well. Take care.#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.

(that said, it's an awful system - alcoholics can get sick pay and so can people who are well enough to appear on X-Factor every week, but my mum who has M.E. coupled with a permanent neck fracture since she was in her 20's hasn't been able to claim a bean in the last 30 years and had to rely on my dad's low wage)
You won't be able to claim contributions-based Jobseekers, but you can certainly claim Income-based (means-tested). You have to have less than 'X' amount of savings, and no big means of other income like shares, which you clearly have not got!! Have you not tried this route??? If not do it now! Now!!
The advisor had suggested that Mr BR's income might be too high (in spite of the fact that it's not high enough for us atm!)Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

Ah, I'm a lone claimer so I don't know the ins and outs of what a partner has to earn. It doesn't cost anything to try, though. The advisor has probably been told to limit new claimants, what with the state of the country. I think it is a straight yes / no eligibility regarding people's incomes/savings - so I don't see why the advisor couldn't have known whether you'd get it or not. I would start a claim online anyway, the worst they can do is reject your application.

If your husband earns more than £105.95 per week you will not be entitled to any jobseekers.BlushingRose wrote: »The advisor had suggested that Mr BR's income might be too high (in spite of the fact that it's not high enough for us atm!)I made a mistake once, believeing people on the internet were my virtual friends. It won't be a mistake that I make again!0
