Three contract problems

Help! I took out a 24 month contract with three to get a netbook. Wrote to them on 1/10/12 to say wasn't going to renew. (Contract ended 7/11/12) but they want to charge me an extra month. I had already stopped the dd so now they keep ringing me saying they want around £26 off me. They say its a rolling contract. It sounds a bit like saying its a 24 month contract but you have to pay for 25. Can anybody offer me any advice?

  • Hi, Just wanted to give this a quick bump and add that a similar thing has happend to me.

I've just finished a 12 month contract with Three. I thought that my contract finished around the 20th of december, now it turns out it was the 3rd.
They have continued the contract for another month, however I want them to end it. They have told me it is because I didn't give them 30 days notice.
Firstly shouldnt they have warned me that the contract was coming to an end.
And secondly is there anything I can do? or am i just going to have to pay.

I get customers all the time giving me "notice" to cancel months in advance. Unless you physically place a cease order with the company your notice means nothing. You need to ring 30 days before and ask to cancel at which point they will say they should give you two options:

    1) cancel immediately, and pay for 30 days
    2) cancel in 30 days and pay for 30 days

Or 14 days depending on the company. I'm a consumer also and have been affected by this. Just because you come out of contract doesn't mean you can use the service as you wish until you feel like cancelling, you do need to issue proper notice.

It is harsh though I do need to add. My advice would be with any service, Actually have a cancellation conversation with them in the last month of your term. It's in your best interests really.

Thank you for your reply, However I didnt use the service once the contract ended.
Secondly I didnt know when the contact ended. There was also no contact with me to tell me when it would end.

I've also recieved a bill today from them for £34.97, even tho the monthly cost was £10.88.

And like evry other company they are very slow to respond.

Just because a rolling contract is a good con, doesnt change the fact that it is still a con.

its not a con, its in the contract you signed. It will state (as they all do) that the services provided will continue after the end of the compulsory period at the terms agreed unless they advise you otherwise.

It will also state the amount of notice required to cancel a contract, if you call in month 11 with 30 days to go it will end on the date specified.

I can't understand why its the company's responsibility to inform you that the contract you signed with them has ended - you know the dates, its on the contract you signed or agreed to.

Thank you Visidigi for your input it was very insightful.
The fact that I had to cancel was indeed in the T&C's. I had forgotten due to the fact that they were so long and I have better things to do other than remember company T&C's.

The simple fact is I forgot to cancel on the exact date I had to.
If it took 30 days to arrange someone to come out and dissasemble equipment then I would gladly pay. However paying for someone to flick a switch to "OFF" just seems a con.

I've now recieved an e-mail and they apologised and have closed the account.
