can anyone please advise, my son had an attempted burglary during the early hours of this morning.
the patio door has been forced open(the hammering and banging woke him up)causing damage to the frame and the glass has cracked.although they got the door open he obviously disturbed them as they didnt get into the house to set the alarm off.
police attended.
if he claims on insurance for the damage will it affect his premium and future quotes when shopping around in future?
ironically his renewal is due 3 january so just renewed yesterday with his current insurers.

I would guess YES, as you have to enter on the form if you have made any claims in the last X years.:money: :money: :money: :money: :money: :money:0 -
Even if he doesn't claim, he must still report the incident to the insurer, so it will still impact his premiums in the future. Some insurers insist on immediate disclosure, others on disclosure at renewal.
I would guess that he still has a duty to disclose this on the renewal as it doesn't actually take place until 3 January.I am a mortgage broker. thanks for replies. they didnt actually enter his property but have damaged the patio door.
does it still have to be reported? i thought he would only be asked if he had had any claims in the past X years not if he had had any attempted break ins.
he is doesnt know whether to report it and claim, or replace/repair damage himself. he is worried about the soaring cost of insurance without having a claim as well.0 -
It depends on what his policy says, some say “any claims?” some say "any incidents whether or not it lead to a claim?”0

Home tends to be a lot less strict about reporting "incidents" than Motor because it would be hard to believe anyone who says in the last 5 years they've never spilt wine, coffee or tea (etc) on their carpets/ sofa/ clothes etc which could have lead to claim (though obviously not cost effective to do so in most cases) - In some peoples cases its more of a once every 5 hours thing.
Ultimately you need to read the question and answer it appropriately.0
