Samsung Galaxy Y or Galaxy Mini

My 11 year old is wanting a Samsung Galaxy Y or Galaxy mini for christmas. Looking at all the options for network I was thinking of using the tesco sim only deal that can be capped, therefore I would either buy the phone from tesco, or buy elsewhere and have the phone unlocked.

Can anyone advise which phone would be best, and also if you have seen any good deals around that might bring the costs down a bit.

Many thanks
Waddle you do eh?

The Galaxy Y is the newer of the two and as far as I know is the successor to the Mini.

Having looked at both in the shops, the Galaxy Y certainly felt better to hold and use, and has a pleasing 'mini-iphone' shape/look to it.

    Main differences are:

Mini has pressable buttons (ie they push down and click) for back, menu whereas the Y has 'soft buttons' (they don't actually push down)

Y has the newer 2.3 (Gingerbread) version of Android where Mini has 2.2

Carphone Warehouse have Galaxy Y on offer at £79.99, O2 are doing it for £89.99 on PAYG.
