new mots jan 2012
has anybody found any info on the changes comeing in for mots in jan 2012. i'm specificly asking about cats on diesel cars.
i have a 2001 arosa 1.4tdi which has a de-cat fitted, and currently flies through it's mot emissions test.my next mot is due in may 2012,i've been told that from the 1st of jan it would need to have a approved cat to be able to pass? so if this is true, would i be able to re mot in dec to give me some more breathing space. i realy do not want to go back to haveing to use a cat on the car,as i love the much improved power and increased economy.

If a car is supposed to have a cat fitted then it'll need one fitted... So it'll be worth getting it done a few weeks early.0

Is that because of the new MOT test?"You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

dunno about 5 months as MOT's say that the earliest you can do it is a month before... but you did remind me that mine is due in January........
If you have a cat for it, find a friendly MOT station. Stick the cat on the seat and ask if they can fit the cat before the test and remove it for you after; most 'friendly' ones will just stick the pipes in a different car (or test it without the cat and see if it passes) instead of messing about with the cat.0 -
According to this website the main changes for next year are as follows:-
http://www.newmot.co.uk/
The MOT test is set to change by January 2012 with the following POSSIBLE changes:
1) Dashboard Warning Lights
A car will fail an MOT tset if a dashboard warning light shows a problem such as Airbags, Electric Power Steering, Electonic stability sytem and additional restraint systems.
2) Electrical Wiring
The condition of a cars wiring will be inspected for damage (such as chaffing against the engine or through an ungrommeted hole etc), and it's security.
3) Car Battery Security
The battery will be checked for security. This should present few problems unless the wrong sized battery is fitted, the clamp is loose or corrosion has affected support or security of the battery.
4) Headlamp bulbs and unit incompatibilty and levelling devices.
The cars lighting system will be checked particularly for incorrect fitment of some aftermarket 'bright' bulb kits.
5) Management electronic control unit (ECU) modification."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

apparently, there's a thread about it on the MR2 forums, although I've just seen a post on there that TDI's don't need a cat until after 3008..

that was linked, not had chance to read it yet though0 -
did you mean cars built after 2008?scheming_gypsy wrote: »apparently, there's a thread about it on the MR2 forums, although I've just seen a post on there that TDI's don't need a cat until after 3008..

That is wrong. You can MOT a car 365 days a year if you wish. The 4 week rule is so that the new MOT expires 12 months after the expiry of the current one if there is 4 weeks or less remaining. If there is more than 4 weeks remaining on the current MOT, the new MOT will expire 12 months from the test date.0 -
i think they maybe talking about the current test?scheming_gypsy wrote: »The post on there said.
not the new mot standards that are due to come in jan?0
