Take Away Delivery Driver

A local tandoori is advertising for a delivery driver... it might be a good way to make some extra dosh in the lead up to xmas...
Thing is, do I need additional car insurance to do this? I thought I'd need business cover, which would obviously make the whole thing pointless.

You'll find many delivery drivers don't bother with the right vehicle insurance.0

Business cover on our car is like 13 quid extra a year
Id be more worried about the tax paid on a second job and questioning how worthwhile it is0 -

For connection with your own business.
for connection with an employers business, it is an eye watering amount, similar to taxi insurance.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
So I need to add insurance to make it legal? I figured that most wouldn't bother, but if I get stopped I face a driving without insurance charge?
Plus with the additional mileage etc it's probably a negligible profit.0 -

As far as i know you do not need any extra insurance for delivery driving, i have had friends in the past that have done this to earn extra cash.
I dont know for sure, this is based solely on what they have told me.

Yes you will. And you will get your car seized as well.
Whilst some business insurance use is cheap (I pay nothing), business use for hire and reward is eye wateringly expensive. You are basically in the same category as a courier. BUT some places may have their own insurance which covers you in your car whilst driving for their business - certainly Halfords did when I was a mechanic there and had to go pick up parts.
As regards the tax on a second job, why do people keep posting this nonsense? You pay no more than if you earned the same time as overtime with your main employer.0 -

They lied to you. Ordinary car insurance is for social, domestic and commuting to a place of work.0 -

Yes you do, but the affect of tax is lessened by personal allowance on the first job, 2nd job is subject to full tax
Some people are not aware of how the tax system works, hence can be shocked by the amount of tax paid on secondary income0
