New Energy Labels for Domestic Appliances

Options
From 20th December 2011, new domestic appliances and electrical products will have to display the new energy label under EU law. The revised label is designed to emphasise the product's energy consumption and enable consumers to calculate its running costs.

The new label contains information on the appliance's noise level, drying efficiency and storage capacity. It's designed to be easy to understand, using as little language as possible. The label's new A+ ratings and discontinuation of the ratings E, F and G reflect how much the performance of appliances has improved since the introduction of the original label in the mid-1990s. And unlike the old label, retailers and manufacturers risk being fined if they display or sell an appliance without a visible label.

And yes, the Warnings board is probably the best place for this so I'll move it across.

Actually the people at Directgov really like our leaflet and thousands have been requested (free of charge) by Local Authorities.

It's not really a warning. It's advising consumers about what they have the right to be told about the energy consumption of new appliances.

Really, I prefer to look at it another way. Ensuring that all the appliances we use in the home are as energy efficient as possible would surely save us money and reduce the drain on world resources.

Trying to help the public understand the labelling on appliances so they can make an informed decision when purchasing large appliances helps them save money.

Not much point going for the cheapest thing to buy if its lifetime cost is going to be much more than the more efficient appliances.

26,000,000 homes in this country (many more in Europe) most of which have fridges and freezers, washer machines maybe dryers and dish washers.

    Small savings soon add up.

Does the label show how much energy it took to manufacture it and transport it from some far flung part of the world ...... I thought not  and of course to transport the scrap metal and plastic to that far flung part of the world.
