Fuming with BT!!!!

We have been with BT since 2008 and have phone, broadband and TV with them. Recently they changed the email section and since then have lost all my emails from February 2011 to 2008. My husband also uses bt email and his emails are all there. We have been in touch with BT and they have told us that I clicked a link in November which didn't save my emails. Is there anyway that I can complain against them or better still retrieve my emails? Thanks

Apparently, I didn't check a box on a pop client? If that makes any sense?

You seem to be "Fuming with BT!!!!" because of something that you have done yourself!

If you didn't check a box on a pop client to keep the e-mails on their server, they should still be stored in the e-mail client on your PC.

I doubt if there is any chance that they will be able to retrieve the lost e-mails if you didn't save them on your own PC.

Thanks, I haven't checked any boxes so I know it's not my probelm. I never had a problem until BT Yahoo changed their email settings.

Somebody will correct me if i am wrong but
POP servers delete mail once you download it as the normal setting .

ISP/Email hosts do not normally keep users emails archived .Most users delete emails frequently .

I cannot see how you can complain unless you where sold a specific service with an email backup .As the norm is for emails not to be retained on the server on non business accounts .

Thanks JJ, I wasn't aware of that. I assumed (maybe wrongly) that you could keep all your emails. I am currently going through court proceedings and I had emails going back to incidents as far back as 2008. I was only looking at them the other day, so was really shocked when they disappeared. They claim I didn't check a box, but all I was told was that they were changing the way the emails looked etc, no mention of losing any.

POP server is simply a mechanism to fetch emails.
The settings on the email client determine whether the messages are deleted (by the client) after download or after so many days. Outlook Express, Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail all come with a default "download messages and delete them off the server" setting.

How are you accessing your E-mail? Using an E-mail client such as Outlook, Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird or are you using Webmail?

You may have all the old E-mails stored in the E-mail client and they may have been deleted off the server. The E-mails may have been downloaded by your client without you knowing if you usually use the Webmail service.
