That photo with her tongue out is great!
Did you guys crate train? Initially, we said: No. After two nights of crying, and no sleep, we gave in! It's now in our room by our bed, and looking quite cosy with a blanket over it, a kong inside, some stuffed toys, her basket and blanket - the first night she went in it of her own volition, and stayed in it until we got up at 7:45 am. Was a bit stunned. She also stayed clean until we took her out twice in the night at three hourly intervals. This might be a one off though as she's only been it one night!'We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. Truffle was in a crate overnight up until we went on holiday, he was 7 months old. We left him with a family that look after dogs in their home. I said she could do what was best for him, soft I know, by the time we came back he was sleeping on their son's bed. He now sleeps either on my bed or on a quilt on the floor at the end of my bed. He didn't mind his crate but he prefers my bed.:D A friend of mine has 4 borders and they love their crates, the doors are always open and they choose to go in at night. You do whatever works best for you. Good luck.0

No she was never crated (until I moved in with other half and mione and his sleep together) the first night she cried all night, second night took her bed into my room and put it beside me and she slept all night from when I went to bed. Clean and dry all night from when we got her home, daytime was a different matter. She would go out and pee on command, come in and pee at my feet. Took a long time to break that one.
You have made the best decision in the world with a Border, Ellie has been and still is a healthy and hardie wee thing. Never had to take her to the vet aside from her annual jabs. Almost 12 her eyes are going a bit blue but thats the only sign of age. The vet I saw last week for their jabs couldn't believe she was so old, thought she was just a pup.:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0 -
Scrabble is absolutely gorgeous! We have a two and a half year old Border Terrier, called Charlie. I'd post pictures, but I'm too new
He is fanatical about chewing things, luckily he appears to have grown out of chewing on cupboards and now sticks to his toy rope and the bits of wood for the fire. We didn't crate train him till he was about a year old, but when we got past the whole 'Don't shut me in!' phase, he took to it nicely. He now sees that as his house, and when he does something he knows we won't like (chewing DH's socks), he goes and sits in his crate and tries to look innocent.
My problem is keeping him groomed properly so that he doesn't look like a complete scruff back (he has this patch of hair along his spine that just sticks straight up0 -
Scrabble is gradually eroding my toes!'We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. '

Our border terrier was a stray in Manchester. We have had him for over 4 years now and he is a joy, absolute joy. You will find they are very clever at carrying one ball and dribbling along another
Looks like your girl is blue and tan like our boy - their hair grows thick and curly. The grizzle borders dont seem to need hair cuts at all.
He has excellent recall most of the time and is very obedient - gets on well with all other dogs. However, Ive met quite a few border owners who say their border hates other dogs, so I dont know how common that problem is. Diggs sleeps on the bed at night. We tried to crate him at night and it broke our hearts to hear him crying.
There is a border terrier forum by the way.
First thing though, sort out insurance on her.0 -
Truffle is grizzle and goes to the groomers once a year. He's also very choosy about which dogs he likes but he loves people. I love the way he barks with a ball in his mouth while chasing after his friends. He is also very cuddly. Surprisingly he wasn't a chewer, he only ever chewed his toys even though there was always shoes left about.:D0
