Vent - Sainsbury's now playing Christmas music

I don't like piped music in shops/malls at the best of time, but the endless loop of Christmas tunes is driving me crazy. The local Sainsbury's normally a haven of quiet, started their contribution this morning.

I am told, when I complain or comment, that it is because shoppers like it. Is this true? I would be interested to find out. Also does it drive shop assistants crazy, is it an accepted part of the job, or does it provide a welcome relief from boredom?

I have Waitrose and the internet to fall back on, so I will not go hungry for the next three weeks or so.

I dislike it intensely because it's just the same few tunes repeated over and over again everywhere that they are played.

Up until 15-20 years ago they would play carols which were nowhere near as annoying -in fact, they could be quite nice - (possibly because they do not have the awful synthetic 'jollity' of 'Christmas tunes').

it is Christmas though, well it's advent which leads up to Christmas.

although if it was that annoying people would spend less time in there and not spend as much, so they must like it.

When I worked at Littlewoods in Manchester I liked their Christmas tapes played over the tannoy. So no, I would say this is definitely not something "most people" dislike.

I can only speak for myself, but I hate and detest these so-called Xmas songs. There are only 5 or six played endlessly and let's face it, they are all just novelty records.

On the bright side, there are only 19 days of this Xmas torture left.

If at the period Christmas music was played customers spent less/spent less time in store-the stores wouldn't do it. So yes you're probably in the minority as stores chart changes like this very carefully.
Still as you say you have alternatives so it's hardly the end of the world eh ?

I used to work in HMV and the Christmas tunes used to drive me mental after a while..but then so did the latest Scooter CD or whatever they made us listen to for the rest of the year, thinking about it...
