Mid Contract Get-Out?
Has anyone got any tips to help me please ......
I'm 13 months into a 24 month contract with Orange, monthly tariff approx £32/month, and I have a Samsung Galaxy S handset.
I am really fed up with the phone. It's not been right since I first got it in August 2010 (from Car Phone Warehouse) but because it's now over 12 months old, Car Phone Warehouse won't do anything, Orange say it's a Car Phone Warehouse issue, and CPW say it's an Orange issue.
Baasically, Orange have quoted me £280 to buy out of my contract, or £230 to upgrade. I can't afford either of these, but I need a reliable phone as I am starting up my own business.
The Galaxy S is running the current version of software (according to Keyes) but it cuts out for no reason, messages and calls don't get through to me, texts take anything up to 72 hours to reach the recipients and yesterday, the phone switched itself off 3 times!
Ideally, I would like an iPhone 4S. I realise this isn't going to happen magically, or free, but any advice to avoid the buy-out or upgrade charge from Orange would be much appreciated.
the fact that Orange are putting their monthly tariffs up in January just adds insult to injury!

Sell your dodgy phone.
Insert Orange sim into new phone, you can get a good one for say £200 although Iphone is £500.
Just buy a new sim free phone from amazon.co.uk and use the current Orange sim. I wouldn't cancel the contract as thats a waste of a whole tariff for a year. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
If it's a faulty handset, what about the manufacturer's 24 month warranty?I am really fed up with the phone. That's a good phone so it should work properly.
If you fancy a new phone, you'll either have to sell the Samsung to part fund the contract buy out or just pay two contracts side by side.....that's the price of desire for new gadgets I'm afraid."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -
If you don't want to go down the route of following up on the 24 month warranty option you could cash it in with a recycling company via this website.
Current cash in figures for a Galaxy S1 i9000 are in the region of £130

The Galaxy S is running the current version of software (according to Keyes) but it cuts out for no reason,
messages and calls don't get through to me,
>> Might be a sim problem or faulty firmware .
texts take anything up to 72 hours to reach the recipients
>>Thats more like a network problem unless your phone is not sending them .
and yesterday, the phone switched itself off 3 times!
The logical step when that happens is to follow the instructions back up data and factory reset the phone ..
Still fails then a Samsung Service centre would be the next step >>

good idea.
Tesco give 5000 cc points (£50) and £68.97 which is quite good especially if you use clubcard deals.

You don't have advanced task killer on the phone do you? It's a common reason for phones playing up as it clashes with the latest software. You have to start to finish.
