sat nav advice please
Hi Guys
I'm coming up to contract renegotiation time with O2 again and would like some advice.
I've been being seduced recently by the smartphones with integrated sat nav - specifically I have been looking at the SPV M1000 which comes with tomtom.
On investigating the O2 site their answer to this is the XDA with CoPilot.
I am intending having the smart phone almost exclusively as a sat nav and will retain my existing N70 for calls and txts, so my question is, should I forego an upgrade with O2 and negotiate an even better minutes and text deal with O2 and buy a SPV of ebay or similar, or go for the XDA with CoPilot an haggle the best mins and txt upgrade I can?
TIA

Two GPS threads this quick haha!
I'd go different. Go for the phone and package you really want, then go out and buy a cheap GPS bluetooth device from ebay (expect to pay £30-£40), and get yourself TomTom mobile on a memory card for your phone. Works out a lot cheaper and you get the phone and package that you really want. My GPS works fine on a 6630 so you don't need a fancy phone, any smartphone should do.0 -
Oops, I should have read and hijacked the other thread, sorry :-(
I got a bluetooth GPS reciever off ebay a couple of weeks ago, so buying tomtom would be an option as well. The XDA looks like a decent PDA so I think I'd be happy with that, but I don't know anything about CoPilot so don't know if I would be better getting an unlocked SPV and going with tomtom?
The other option would be to put tomtom on my existing N70 and giving myself more bargaining power with O2 if I decline the upgrade.
Eeek - I hate decisions sometimes :-)
Thanks for the super fast reply btw, must be something of a record0 -
I've never been a chop and changer of phones, it's always been done for a reason with me - like my last upgrade was because I broke my phone, the time before was it wouldn't hold its charge and Siemans wanted a huge fee to fix it. So if I was in your position, me being me I'd stick with the N70 and put tomtom on it.
I wouldn't have an SPV again since my last phone was an SPV, it was a lot slower than the Symbian based phones. Admittedly it was one of the original models - an E100, but because SPV isn't as widely used as Symbian based phones you'll find less applications and ongoing support as the phone gets older.0 -
nice one CS - I'll instigate my negotiations then and see how good a deal I can get out of O2 then :-)
Now I just need to research the rivals so that I have accurate info on what deals I could get if I changed to quote at them.
Appreciate the fast and helpful responses.0 -
Pleasure, and hope you get a good deal!0
