Has the word sarcasm been rubbed out in your dictionary?

It did cross my mind that RM might be being sarcastic, but given his track record, it's hard to tell. If it is sarcasm, then he obviously believes that marlonthemagnificent isn't who he says he is. Now I don't know for sure that marlonthemagnificent is for real, but unlike RM, I wouldn't accuse any forum member of pretending to be someone else, unless I'm sure. At one point, I seem to remember RM accusing me of being geneer, and I don't think he was being sarcastic on that occasion.

Surely it was obvious. Poor ol' marlon just felt dragged into somehow making his opinion seem more worthwhile and chose the oft travelled route of "but I should be listened to because of who/what I am". It was transparent and therefore an easy shot.

As for the other, I know you have history with RM and I know he's accused you of being geneer. He's accused me of being someone else too. Unfortunately, as evidenced by his latest "ignore-fest" broadcast for all to see, he does get a little "over-involved" sometimes. Surely you were aware he was simply trying to get a rise out of you?

DervProf doesn't 'do' humour. He's that bore you see at all house parties who hangs on the edge of a group of people, fake laughs in all the wrong places because he doesn't get the jokes and has people edging away from him until he's left on his own in the corner of the room with just the pot plants for company.

Some people have no luck. :(

Yes, he has openly admitted that he tries to wind up "the usual suspects". Seems that he's the one that gets a little wound up if someone dares to not agree with him.

I'm sure there are a few of my posts that prove, once again, that you know very little about me.

Or are you being sarcastic ?

Meanwhile, RM is in the center of the crowd, telling everyone about his marvelous stone built house and precisely how much he overpaid on his mortgage last year. _party_

I don't think there is much danger of anyone thinking that you are geneer, your quoted post above is all the evidence that is required to prove otherwise. Rather than coming back arguementively which you could have chosen to do so, you came back with a simple reflective response, sticking to the point 100%.

    nope.

i said what did for a living in response to sibley's suggestion that i was an embittered, unemployed scaremonger. it was not showing off, and it was not self-aggrandisation in anyway.

who i am and what i do for a profession doesn't make my opinion more or less valid than anyone else's

the reason i had a rant at sibley, and only sibley, is because he has spent years trolling internet forums and newspaper columns under multiple id's, berating and ridiculing anyone who does not own their own home. his attitude to those less fortunate that himself is appauling. the very idea that he is now trying to take a moral high ground is laughable after the way he has spoken to people over an extended period of time. he has told lie after lie about his circumstances, his profession, his status, etc, and has has made hundreds of disparaging and offensive comments to people purely on the basis of their financial status and home-owning status. i find him and people like him deplorable. just because someone does not own their own home does not make them 'scum', as he likes to say

my only philosophy that is relevant and the only reason i joined this site and made some comments this week is to give my perspective on the myth that exists in this country that home ownership makes you somehow more respectable and more worthy, and that it is the only route to self-fulfillment. the whole thing is a pack of insutitutionalised lies.

STRing in 2007 was a bad move?
    Please explain.

If STR means sell to rent then he made possibly a brilliant call, If he is able to sitting it out and time is not an issue that is.
Prices from 2007 are unlikely to recover for a good many years yet.

How on earth can anyone call this a bad move?

If you sold purely to make money it depends on how much house prices fall. Where I am the average semi is worth £3000 less than it was at the beginning of 2007 and with the average rent for a semi being about £900 a month (£10800 a year) I would say it would have been a bad move.

If you could have timed everything perfectly the house has dropped £17k from peak, which was early 2008, and you would have spent almost £43k on rent allowing say £8k for selling and re buying houses would have had to drop another £34k.
