They sent an e-mail I think it was if you booked before something like the 12th December and yes it is authorise as it is in some part of the tems and conditions because it is a tax for which they cannot control. I can live with it as I also got three sets of 1p flights from Ryanair which were brill.
    -found it
    Dear Customer,

In his budget speech on 6th December 2006, the UK Chancellor, Mr Gordon
Brown MP, announced his decision to DOUBLE “UK Air Passenger Duty”.
This tax grab which is applicable to every passenger departing from a
UK airport will generate £1bn. in tax revenues for the UK Government,
but will do nothing for the environment.

Unfortunately, as you booked your flight - confirmation number ****
before the 7th December 2006 with a travel date after the 1st February
2007 (see the below flight details), we have no alternative, in this
instance, but to act as the UK Chancellor’s tax collector.

In accordance, with Article 4.2.2 of Ryanair’s General Conditions of
Carriage, the additional tax amount required by the UK government will
automatically be charged to the credit card or debit card used to pay
for this flight booking. These credit/debit card transactions will
automatically take place over the next 2 weeks

UK Air Passenger Duty Rates – applicable per person for each
departing flight from a UK airport which was booked before the 7th December
2006 for travel from the 1st February 2007 onwards.

£10*(GBP) per person for each UK domestic flight (£20 on a return UK
    domestic flight)
£10* (GBP) per person for flights from the UK to an EU/EEA airport
£40* (GBP) per person for flights from the UK to an airport outside
    the EU/EEA – e.g. Morocco

    *or local currency equivalent

If you want to fly you'll have to pay the additional tax. If you don't want to fly cancel the booking.

The robbing, lying, thives are Gordon Brown and Tony Blair i.e. NEW LIEBOUR
  • I believe that if you had not pai dthe additional charge they would have just denied you bording at the airport.

Low cost operators have very small margin so have to pass this cost on to you - they are only collecting the tax on behalf of the Govt.

BA absorbed the costs for their customers.

It won't affect you if you booked in January, only affects those that booked before 6 Dec I believe.

Hes not that bad ynot2005 , he boils them first:rolleyes: I heard its like picking your own lobster in they posh resturaunts. If you go to dinner at his place ,he has a playpen full of them.Thats why they dont charge for under 2s you know-they abduct them for his dinner parties. They give you extra baggage allowance if you keep quiet about it though.Thats why no one complains.
  • Air tax increase or not, Ryan air's prices go up and down like the proverbial tarts' knickers!

I bought 2 return flights to travel from the UK to Eire last October and paid more for these than if I'd waited until January and that's after the Air tax increase was announced.

RA have just emailed me today to say they will deduct another £10 per passenger to line Mr Brown's pockets.

I have written back with the following reasons why I feel RA should absorb these costs.

    a) I've already paid more than the £10 extra tax in cost of my flights
    b) They've had my cash in their bank account since October
    c) They're only emailing me now when I should have been informed in December.

It isn't RA's fault :A , but on the other hand, how come January's fares (inc taxes) for the same flights were lower? Around a third lower to be precise.

Simple. Supply and demand. Equally, the price could have been a third higher.

Is it not time to change the title of this thread? Ryanair haven't actually done anything wrong!
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Actually I disagree.

At no point was I notified that I would be charged an additional tax. I admit that I haven't read the T&C thoroughly but I can't see an obvious loophole that allows them to change a confirmed price, especially without informing the customer.

It does seem reasonable to me that a company like Ryanair should have the forethought to mention during the booking process the possibility of a tax increase on the horizon even if it is beyond there control. By all means inform your potential customers upon booking but don’t try and squeeze a few more pounds out of them after they think they have paid in full!

As for Ryanair passing on the cost while larger companies absorbed without charging, I don't really have an issue with this as I guess its the way the world works but what really gets my goat is the charge was made & nothing was sent to me to inform of the increase, the booking confirmation didn't even draw my attention to the increase - it was only because I like to check things like this that I noticed a change in the total price.

This is not a way to operate a business; it is deceitful as a policy!
